11 RPAC Wrestlers Clinch Medals - Hill, Lans, and Manka to Wrestle for Gold

Day two of the NSAA Boys State Wrestling Tournament was held at the CHI Health Center on Friday. Action began for the RPAC wrestlers in the afternoon with the first two rounds on the consolation side of the brackets. We began the day with all 26 wrestlers still in the competition and entered the evening session with 16 wrestlers fighting for a spot on the podium. There will be 11 wrestling for a medal on Saturday morning, and three wrestling in the championship matches. Let's dive into Friday's results.

First Round Consolation Matches


At 106 pounds, Gavin Andrews of Arapahoe received a bye for this round to move on to the second round of the consolation bracket.


Hayden Helms of Arapahoe faced Holden Beel of Ainsworth at 120 pounds. Helms defeated Beel by a 4-2 decision to advance to the second round consolation matches.


At 132 pounds, Drake Olesen of Bertrand faced Makayo Confer of High Plains. Olesen defeated Confer by major decision, 13-3, to advance to the second round consolation matches.



Micah Gerlach of Cambridge faced Grady Drueke of EPPJ at 150 pounds. Gerlach bounced back nicely and picked up the win via fall, 3:00, to advance into the next round of the consolation matches.


Also at 150 pounds, Samuel Hare of Hitchcock County faced Cort Buss of Burwell. Hare wrestled hard, but fell to Buss late in the match at 4:56 and ended his season. He finished with an 18-22 record.


Cale Graham of Hitchcock County faced Zachary Wiebelbaus of North Central at 157 pounds. Graham picked up a nice win and defeated Wiebelhaus by fall in 2:44 to move on to the second round matches.

At 165 pounds, Dylan Kollmargan of Hitchcock County faced Chance Swantek of Twin River. Kollmorgan won and advanced to the second-round matches with a fall in 2:56 over Swantek.


Colton Fote of Paxton faced Jacob Motacek of Niobrara/Verdigre at 175 pounds. Fote wrestled well and earned the win via tech fall over Motacek to move on to the next round.



At 215 pounds, Colt Gosnell of Maxwell faced Kyprin Colloer of Hartington-Newcastle. Gosnell was able to wrestle a strong match and earned the win via fall over Collier to advance to the next round.


Keith Andersen of Sutherland faced Dylan Layne of Pawnee City at 285 pounds. Andersen lost to Layne by sudden victory to end his season. He finished his season with a 38-15 record.

Second Round Consolation Matches


At 106 pounds, Gavin Andrews of Arapahoe and Bryton Stalder of Southern Valley faced off. Stalder defeated Andrews by major decision, 9-1. Andrews ended his season with a record of 29-13. Stalder advanced to the third round consolation matches.



At 120 pounds, Hayden Helms of Arapahoe and Connor Edwards of Hi-Line battled. Edwards secured the win via fall at 2:23 to advance to the third-round consolation matches. Helms ended his season with a record of 32-12.


Ben Frame of Sutherland faced Cameron Fisher of Ravenna and had a nice match, defeating him by an 8-1 decision. Frame advanced to the third round matches at 126 pounds.


Drake Olesen of Bertrand fell to Carter Trambly of Franklin in 2:36. Olesen ended his season in the second round consolation matches. He finished with a 34-18 record.



At 150 pounds, Micah Gerlach of Cambridge faced Alex Meier of Elm Creek. Gerlach fell to Meier in 3:30 to end his season. He finished the season with a record of 36-6.


At 157 pounds, Gage Rupp of Hi-Line battled with Ty Opfer of Hartington-Newcastle. He had another nice outing and defeated Opfer by fall in 2:28 to advance to the next round.


Cale Graham of Hitchcock County faced Cazen Smith of Twin Loup at 157 pounds. Graham lost to Smith by a 14-1 major decision and ended his tournament run. He finished the season with a record of 20-17.



At 165 pounds, Dylan Kollmorgan of Hitchcock County faced Alton Wurdinger of Stanton. Kollmorgan kept things rolling and defeated Wurdinger by fall in 2:01 to move on to the next round.


At 175 pounds, Colton Fote of Paxton wrestled Rocco Hageman of East Butler. Fote fell to Hageman in 2:19 to end his season. He finished the season with a record of 23-12.


Brayden Evans of Bertrand faced Carsen Goes of Southern at 190 pounds. Evans wrestled a strong match and defeated Goes by a 10-6 decision, and advanced to the third round matches.



Kreyton Wiese of Wauneta-Palisade battled Carson Tomasek of Stanton at 190 pounds. Wiese got the victory and defeated Tomasek by fall in 2:46 to move on to the next round.


At 215 pounds, Colt Gosnell of Maxwell faced Aydin Banta of Sutton. Gosnell lost to Banta by a 4-0 decision to end his season. He finished with a 33-9 record.


At 285 pounds, Trey Downey of Arapahoe wrestled Kaleb Andel of Aquinas Catholic. Downey battled hard, but lost to Andel by a 6-2 decision, which ended his season. He finished with a 39-13 record.

Third Round Consolation Matches


This is the heartbreak round - with a win, you guarantee yourself a medal, and with a loss, your season comes to an end.


At 106 pounds, Bryton Stalder of Southern Valley faced Ryan Ragsdale of Hemingford. Stalder defeated Ragsdale to advance to the consolation semifinals by a 5-0 decision. He will face Wyatt Anderson of Amherst in the consolation semifinals on Saturday morning.


At 120 pounds, Connor Edwards of Hi-Line battled Adryck Stewart of Plainview. Stewart defeated Edwards by tech fall. Edwards' season came to an end with a record of 29-6.


Ben Frame of Sutherland faced Grady Lammers of Hartington-Newcastle at 126 pounds. Frame fell to Lammers in 1:24 to end his season. He finished with a 42-6 record.


Gage Rupp of Hi-Line will face Cazen Smith of Twin Loup at 157 pounds. Smith defeated Rupp by major decision, 14-5. Rupp ended his season with a record of 26-9.


At 165 pounds, Dylan Kollmorgan of Hitchcock County battled with Oran Grint of Twin Loup. Kollmorgan earned the win to advance to the consolation semifinals via fall in 2:07. He will face Breckyn Collins of North Platte St. Pat's.


At 190 pounds, Brayden Evans of Bertrand wrestled Logan Nelson of Wisner-Pilger. Evans fell to Nelson in 0:53 to end his season. He finished with a 21-9 record.


Also at 190 pounds, Kreyton Wiese of Wauneta-Palisade faced Josh Spray of Sandy Creek. Wiese defeated Spray by tech fall to advance to the consolation semifinals. He will face Kason Larson of Burwell.

Semifinal Matches


At 138 pounds, Scotty Anderson of Sutherland faced Drew Dawe of Burwell. Anderson battled in this tough much, losing to Dawe by a 7-4 decision. He will wrestle in the consolation semifinals against Royce Hansen of Stanton.


Briggs Hill faced Symon Kastl of Aquinas Catholic at 144 pounds. It was a gritty win for Hill as he came away with the 5-4 decision win to advance to the championship match on Saturday afternoon against Corbin Hoefer of Neligh-Oakdale.


At 150 pounds, Parker Schutz of Hi-Line faced Cooper Arehart of Neleigh-Oakdale. Schutz lost to Arehart by tech fall. He will face Calvin Carraher of Franklin in the consolation semifinals.


Colton Perks faced William Pokorny of Central Valley at 165 pounds. Perks fell to Pokorny in 1:53. He will wrestle Gavin Ironshell of Wilcox-Hildreth in the consolation semifinals.


Also at 165 pounds was Hayden Lans of Southern Valley, who faced Breckyn Collins of North Platte St. Pat's. Lans earned a win that looked like a football score, a 24-17 decision win to advance to the championship match Saturday afternoon. He will face William Pokorny of Central Valley.



David Bryner of Wauneta-Palisade faced Cauy Meyer of Loomis at 175 pounds. Bryner fell to Meyer in 1:23 to move to the consolation semifinal. He will face Jett Vrbka of Shelby-Rising City.


At 190 pounds, Trevor Manka of Maxwell faced Kason Larson of Burwell. Manka wrestled well and defeated Larson by major decision, 17-3. He advanced to the championship match on Saturday afternoon, where he will face Elijah Fjell of Shelby-Rising City.


Karson Shuler of Hitchcock County faced Coy Vrbka of Shelby Rising City at 215 pounds. Shuler lost to Vrbka by a 7-3 decision. He will wrestle in the consolation semifinals against Wyatt Stieb of Arcadia/Loup City.


At 285 pounds, Jayden Loghry of Hitchcock County faced Levi Gall of Clarkson/Leigh. Loghry fell to Gall in 3:20. He will wrestle in the consolation matches on Saturday morning against Owen Plog of Hemingford.


Wrestling will resume Saturday morning at 9:00 A.M. CT with the consolation semifinals. The 3rd- and 5th-place medal matches will follow the consolation semifinals. The championship matches are slated to begin at 3:00 P.M. CT.
