Bertrand hosted Alma on Thursday evening for a girls and boys double-header as the 2024-2025 campaign began.
Let's begin with the girls matchup. The Cardinals won big, 51-14. Both teams struggled to take the lid off the rim in the game's first quarter. Alma led by a score of 4-0 after the opening period.
Alma eventually got shots to fall, some coming off the pressure they were applying on Bertrand. In the second quarter, Alma got the offense rolling and played defense well, leading 26-3 going to halftime. When Bertrand could work their offense, they had some good looks, but they could not find the bottom of the net.
In the third quarter, Alma had another successful eight minutes. They scored 18 points while holding Bertrand to four. It was 44-7 heading to the final quarter.
The teams split the quarter in the final stanza, scoring seven points each.
Livia Phillips had a nice game for Bertrand, scoring nine points. The Vikings played hard and were scrappy on defense. They are 0-1 to start the season and will face Axtell on the road on Friday.
Alma had four players in double figures: Kamryn Scott had 13 points and three three-pointers, Kamri Neal had 11, Chayse Molzahn had 11, and Tierston Moore scored 10.
Alma is now 1-0 and will host Kenesaw on Friday evening.

In the boys game, it was a back-and-forth affair for a while, but eventually, Alma pulled away and won 54-31. Alma started the game with back-to-back threes from Tucker Biskup and Zavier Mitchell. Bertrand countered two of their own from Chase Vossler.
Bertrand initially came out and controlled the glass but could not get shots to fall on their second-chance opportunities. The offenses, though, for both teams played pretty well for the first quarter of the season's first game. Alma led 17-10 after the opening period.
In the second quarter, the offense slowed down a little and it was 28-17 at the intermission in favor of Alma. In the third, both teams found some good looks once again. Alma was having a ton of succes getting out in transition. For Bertrand, they were having to scrap and claw for their buckets. Even though they struggled to match buckets with Alma, their effort was incredible.
It was 44-29 going into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, Alma played tough defense and held the Vikings to two points while scoring 10 themselves.

For Bertrand, Chase Vossler led the way with eight points. Kayden Hatfield had six and Hunter Nelson, Marshall Steinbrink, and Marcus Hernandez each had five.
Alma had three players in double figures: Zavier Mitchell scored 15 points and had four blocks, Tucker Biskup had 14, and Epp had 13.
Bertrand is 0-1 and will be at Axtell on Friday.
