Arapahoe and Dundy County Stratton Compete in the Nebraska 8-Man Football Kickoff Classic

On Saturday, August 29, the first-ever Nebraska 8-man Football Kickoff Classic took place in Grand Island at Grand Island Senior High School. From the RPAC, Arapahoe and Dundy County Stratton were represented.

First, it was Arapahoe versus Clarkson.
On Clarkson's first drive of the game, they scored a touchdown on a long drive. Jeryn Struebing rushed it in from 2 yards out to make it 6-0 with 7:06 to go in the first quarter.
On Arapahoe's first possession, they moved the ball some, but the drive stalled, and they turned it over on downs. The Warrior defense did well, though, forcing a punt for Clarkson. But there wasn’t a punt at all, as the snap was high and it forced the safety. We went to the second with the score at 6-2.

Arapahoe did not waste the possession as Trey Downey ran it in from one yard out, and then Haiden Helms scored the two-point conversion to make it 10-6 with 7:09 to go before halftime. Clarkson was able to answer with a touchdown of their own, including some fourth-down conversions. It was Nolan Gall who broke multiple tackles to score from 18 yards out. The two-point conversion was good; it was 14-10 with 2:57 to go before halftime.
The Coyotes scored one more time before halftime, on a Mason Faltys 5-yard touchdown run. It was 20-10 with a couple of minutes remaining. At halftime, it was 20-10 in favor of Clarkson. With two minutes and 23 seconds to go in the fourth quarter, Nolan Gall ran in from 21 yards out to push the lead for Clarkson to 26-10.

Clarkson closed out the game and won 26-10. This was Clarkson's first win as a program since 2011. From then on, they were Clarkson/Leigh until this season.

Arapahoe rushed for 156 yards and threw for 14 yards. They also had three turnovers. Rigley McDonald had 66 yards rushing, Trey Downey added 48 yards and a touchdown, and Hayden Helms had 39 yards. Helms added 14 yards passing and an interception. McDonald had 14 yards receiving.
For Clarkson, they had 169 yards rushing and 76 yards passing. Jeryn Struebing totaled 89 yards rushing and 24 yards passing. He had a rushing touchdown too. Nolan Gall had 61 yards rushing and a couple of touchdowns. He was 4-7 passing and had 52 yards.
Clarkson will face Wakefield on Friday at home.
Arapahoe will face Shelton on the road on Friday.
Then, in the second game of the day, it was Hartington-Newcastle versus Dundy County Stratton. Hartington-Newcastle plays in class D1; Dundy County Stratton is in class D3.

Hartington-Newcastle got on the board first as Austin Sudbeck found Kayne Gratzfeld for a 20-yard touchdown pass. The Wildcats scored again late in the first quarter, as Jason Heimes rushed it in from 4 yards out. It was 12-0 with two minutes and 15 seconds to go in the first quarter. 12- 0 was the score heading into the second quarter.

With 10:05 to go in the second quarter, Heimes scored again. 18-0 was the score. With 7:14 left in the first half, Trynt Unger took a handoff and ran it 68 yards for a touchdown on a third and 23. With three minutes and 25 seconds to go before halftime, Will Fellmeier scored once again. The two-point conversion was good, and it was 26-6.

The Wildcats held that score heading into the half. Out of the half, Dundy County Stratton was able to score on a big play as Breck Horner hit Noah Zoltenko on a 49-yard touchdown pass. It was 26 to 12 with 10 minutes and 18 seconds to go in the third.
Sudbeck found Fellmeier for a 22-yard touchdown. With 5:25 to go in the third quarter, Heimes rushes it in from 32 yards out; the two-point conversion was good, 42-12. With about two minutes to go in the third quarter, Sudbeck found Gratzfeld on a 49-yard touchdown to make it 48-12. Noah Zoltenko was able to counter with a touchdown of his own for the Tigers from 39 yards away. And it was 48-18 with just a few seconds on the clock.

Will Fellmeier then rushed it in from 13 yards out in the fourth quarter with 7:24 to go in the game. The two-point conversion was good, and it was 56-12. And that was the final score as well.

For Hartington-Newcastle, they had 278 yards rushing and 180 yards passing. They had two turnovers. Jason Heimes led the rushing attack with 130 yards and three touchdowns. Austin Sudbeck had 82 yards rushing. Will Fellmeier totaled 95 yards and three scores. Kayne Gratzfeld had 74 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
For DCS, they had 178 yards rushing and 70 yards passing. Noah Zoltenko had 70 yards receiving and a touchdown. Zoltenko also had 117 yards rushing and a score. Trynt Unger had 68 yards rushing and a touchdown. Breck Horner was 5-of-8 passing with 73 yards and a touchdown.
The Wildcats will host Homer on Friday. DCS will have a week off, then go to Cambridge on September 11th.
