Cambridge Sweeps Games at Home Against Maxwell

Maxwell made the trip to Cambridge on a cold, windy Saturday afternoon for a pair of games. In the girls game Cambridge won 52-41. Maxwell started out with a 4-0 lead, and Cambridge got a three-pointer from Kolbrynn Clayson at the 3:53 mark in the first quarter to get points on the board. Cambridge went on an 8-0 run from there.
The teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the quarter. Maxwell had a 12-10 lead heading to the second quarter. The Trojans and the Wildcats continue to compete in the second quarter. Late in the half, Cambridge made a little bit of distance as they led 25-18 with one minute and 45 seconds to go before the half. The score remained the same at the intermission.

In the third quarter, Cambridge was able to create some distance and go up by 13, 33-20, about halfway through the period. Cambridge led 41-26 heading to the final quarter.
Maxwell made an attempt at a comeback, but it fell short as the Trojans secured the win.
Mallory Springer led the scoring for Cambridge with 23 points. Brooklyn Holtze added nine and Kolbrynn Clason had seven. For Cambridge, they move to 10-3 and will play Wauneta-Palisade on Tuesday, January 20th, ahead of the RPAC Tournament.
For Maxwell, Kristyn Cheek had 19 points, Maddy Flock had 10, and Emory Christensen scored nine. Maxwell is 4-9 and will play Brady on Tuesday, January 20th, ahead of the RPAC Tournament.

In the boys game, Cambridge won 67-46.
Cambridge started the game on a 15-2 run and set the tone. Cambridge led 17-7 heading to the second quarter. In the second quarter, the teams traded buckets. Cambridge took a time out with 2:20 to go in the half of 25-16. Maxwell cut into the deficit to 27-22 at halftime.
A minute into the second half, Maxwell tied the game up at 27-27 with some timely buckets. Braxton Mitchell of Cambridge, though, hit a three-pointer to reclaim the lead. The Wildcats were getting downhill on drives from Brison Brewer, Jesse Reyes, and others, creating opportunities for teammates to score in a variety of ways.

Brady Ahlemeyer hit a big three-pointer right before the buzzer sounded, to put Cambridge up 43-36 going to the final period.
In the fourth, Cambridge created some distance with outside shooting from Ahlemeyer and Mitchell. The Trojans tightened up on defense, too, to keep extending the lead and capture the win.

Cambridge moves to 8-5 and will play Wauneta-Palisade on Tuesday before the RPAC Tournament. Hodge Raburn scored 20 points, Brady Ahlemeyer had 19, and Braxton Mitchell scored 13.
For Maxwell, they are 3-11 and will play on Tuesday against Brady ahead of the RPAC Tournament. Tayton Phillips and Jaggr Kleewein each scored 12 points.
