On Monday, April 14th, Southern Valley announced that Coy Gideon would be the next Head Football Coach. He has been at Southern Valley since 2023 and has served as an assistant. He's thrilled to be in the position he is in leading the Eagles. "I am very excited to take over the head football job. Coaching football has always been a passion of mine and I am ready to lead the young men of Southern Valley. My love for football goes hand in hand with my love to help young athletes get better in whatever they are trying to achieve. My goal is to create a winning culture that will lead these young men here at Southern Valley to be successful on and off the field. I am coming to Southern Valley from a small community that was surrounded by a great culture and successful football program."
That culture, is Burwell. His dad is a state championship-winning coach, Luke Gideon. "He has definitely shaped me into who I am today. I have been pretty fortunate to witness all the success that has compiled at Burwell through the years as a water boy, player, and coach...My dad coached me to be a leader as well as every athlete that has gone through his program in the last 25 years," said Gideon.
During his college days and during COVID, Gideon was able to take classes online and join his dad's staff in Burwell. "It was great to learn right away the difference of how you view the game from player to coach. What helped me the most was how everyone on the staff worked together for a common goal," said Gideon.
He plans to be a coach who adapts to his players and that will play into their identity. "It will be no secret what identity I will try to create here at Southern Valley, but from what I have learned from my experience at Burwell is that every year you will have a different identity. Yes, they have their bread and butter plays, but every team will have different strengths and different attitudes. When August comes around, we will figure out what our identity will be."
