Dundy County Stratton Wins a Pair of Games at Southwest

On Tuesday evening, Southwest played host to Dundy County Stratton for a pair of basketball games following the RPAC tournaments.
In the girls game, DCS won 59-30.
Following the first quarter, the Tigers had a narrow lead of 15-12. In the second quarter, DCS expanded its lead, but the Roughriders stayed within striking distance, 31-24. Both teams struggled with turnovers, as defensive pressure was a key factor for both squads.

In the third quarter, the Tigers kept things rolling on offense and tightened up their defense, leading 51-28 heading to the fourth period. DCS was able to close out the victory.

Abi Spargo had a solid outing with 23 points for DCS. Clara Spargo scored 14. For the Roughriders, Aspen Billeter scored 11, and Anikka Nelms had 8.
Southwest is now 9-9 and will play at Perkins County on Thursday. DCS moves to 17-1 and will host Hershey on Friday.

In the boys game, DCS won 58-45.
We had an entertaining first quarter in the boys game, as the teams traded buckets. Dundy County Stratton led after the first quarter, 14-10. In the first couple of minutes to the second quarter, Southwest trimmed the lead down to two, 16-14.
DCS took the lead into the half, though, 31-19. The Tigers increased their lead heading into the fourth quarter, with the score reading 50-34. Southwest continued to hang around throughout the fourth quarter, but DCS held them off and secured the victory.

August Shaw led the Tigers in scoring with 20 points, Ethan Latta had 12, and then Cooper Shaw and Dante Horner each had 9 points.

Southwest was led in scoring by Houston Billeter with 20 points, Jacob Barber had 10, and Deric Kelley scored 9.
Southwest is now 7-11 and will play at Perkins County on Thursday. For DCS, they are 15-3 now and will play Hershey at home on Thursday.
