Hitchcock County Wins at Home Friday, Moves on in Class D2 Playoffs

In the second round of the NSAA Class D2 Playoffs, the #3-seeded Hitchcock County Falcons hosted #19-seeded Twin Loup on Halloween night. It was a tough battle, with a number of turnovers —seven total between the two squads. Eventually, the Falcons won 24-10.
In the first quarter, the Falcons had a turnover in their own territory. The Wolves turned it into three points as Carter Hall drilled a 22-yard field goal at the 3:59 mark. A couple of minutes later, Twin Loup had the ball again. This time, Jayce Hauxwell forced a fumble, and it was recovered by Brody Hubl, who returned it roughly 30 yards for a touchdown. It was 8-3 heading to the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Jack Baker found Grady Erickson on a 29-yard touchdown pass to make it 16-3 with 10:22 in the half. The teams traded turnovers in the period, but eventually the Wolves scored as Yahya Harris threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Carter Hall to make it 16-10 with 5:21 remaining in the second quarter. That tally carried into the intermission.
In the second half, only one touchdown was scored, and it was a big one. It was Twin Loup's opening possession of the fourth quarter, and they were on their own 12-yard line. Jayce Hauxwell blocked the punt, and Brody Hubl again pounced on the football in the end zone to score.
Hitchcock County led 24-10 with 8:12 to go in the game.
The teams battled it out until the end, and the Falcons sealed the game on an interception by Jack Baker in the end zone in the final minute.

For the Wolves, they close the season at 6-4. They had 105 yards passing and 127 yards rushing. Yahya Harris had 105 yards passing, one score, and threw three interceptions. Harris had 51 yards rushing. Oran Grint and Carter Hall each had 33 yards rushing. Hall had 85 yards receiving and a touchdown. Grint and Cazen Smith each had 12 tackles. The Wolves had four fumble recoveries. Hall had a field goal for 22 yards.

The Falcons move to 10-0 and will host Wynot on Friday, November 7th. At the time of posting this, a time was not posted. Hitchcock County had 121 yards rushing and 49 yards passing. They had three fumbles. Grady Erickson rushed for 69 yards, and Jack Baker had 40 yards. Baker had 49 yards passing, Jayce Hauxwell had 20 yards receiving, and Grady Erickson had 29 yards receiving and a score. Baker had two interceptions, and Jaret Neben had one. Hauxwell forced two fumbles and blocked a punt, Brody Hubl had a fumble recovery for a score and recovered the blocked punt for a touchdown.
