Loomis Takes Down Cambridge in First Round of Class D2 Playoffs

Thursday night was the first round of the 8-Man Playoffs. In D2, #10 seed Loomis played host to #23 seed Cambridge. Back in late September these two teams played and Loomis won by a final of 66-38. On Thursday, Loomis won again by a final score of 66-30.


Loomis got the scoring stared on a three-yard touchdown run by Cauy Meyer and it was 8-0 with 7:39 to go in the first. Loomis scored a couple of minutes later too, as Jace Schukar ran it in from 21-yards away and pushed the lead to 16-0.




Cambridge got on the board as time expired in the first on an 11-yard run. The conversion was good and made it 16-8 heading to the second period.


Loomis scored 22-unanswered points in the second quarter as they found a groove on both sides of the ball. They took a commanding 38-8 lead into the halftime break.




In the third quarter, Cambridge scored on a two-yard run by Micah Gerlach. The Trojans cut the deficet to 38-16 with about 9:00 to go in that quarter. Loomis had answer though as Jace Schukar ran it in from 30 yards away to make it 44-16.

Gerlach then found Braydon Miller on an 18-yard touchdown pass to make it 44-22 late in the third.


The Wolves scored again, this time a two-yard run by Jaron Schukar and it was 52-22 heading to the final quarter.






In the final period, Loomis had touchdowns from Jace Schukar and Colt Houston, and Cambridge had one more rushing touchdown from Micah Gerlach.

The Wolves had 404 yards rushing in the game. Jace Schukar had 167 yards and three touchdowns, Jaron Schukar at 85 yards and two touchdowns, Cauy Meyer had 67 yards and three touchdowns, Clete Booe had 61 yards, and Colt Houston had a rushing touchdown.

Cambridge totaled 131 yards rushing and 162 yards passing. Gerlach had 162 yards passing and a score. Roy Hoelscher had 55 yards receiving, Braxton Mitchell hadd 55 yards, Braydon Miller had 41 yards and a touchdown. Rushing, Micah Gerlach had 98 yards and three touchdowns and Brady Ahlemeyer had 19 yards.


Cambridge ends the season at 5-4. Loomis moves to 7-2 and will play Archangels Catholic on Friday October 31st.
