Maxwell Travels to Medicine Valley and Sweeps the Raiders

On the opening day of the volleyball season, the Wildcats of Maxwell hit the road to open their season at Medicine Valley. Maxwell was able to defeat the Raiders in a 3-0 sweep, but not without a fight in the third set. Check out the blog for more.
In set one, Maxwell jumped out to a 5-1 lead early and was playing assertively. They were able to extend the lead to 9-4, but not before Medicine Valley started to climb back into the set, only trailing by three, 13-10. The Wildcats went on a 4-0 run to extend the lead to 17-10 and forced a Raider timeout. Maxwell went on to take set one, 25-14.
Set two was a lot of the same, as Maxwell jumped out early 6-4 and extended that lead 11-6. That forced Medicine Valley to take a timeout, but Maxwell kept their foot on the gas. They extended their lead to 16-7 and eventually 21-9, but again, the Raiders had a little flurry at the end. The Wildcats took set two 25-14, giving them a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Medicine Valley played well and capitalized on Maxwell's mistakes. The Wildcats led 3-2, but the Raiders tied it up at 3-3 and then again at 6-6. Medicine Valley took the 8-7 lead, but the Wildcats tied it up at 9-9. The Raiders took the 12-9 lead and forced Maxwell to call a timeout to regroup. Medicine Valley kept their foot on the gas and extended their lead to 15-10, but Maxwell tied it up at 15-15 and eventually took the 16-15 lead. Out of s Wildcat timeout, Maxwell was able to string a handful of points together. Madelynn Nelson was at the service line and was able to help close out the match with three aces in a row during the run, and Maxwell won 25-18, and win 3-0.

Unofficially, for Medicine Valley, Oakley Stout led the team with four kills. The team had four aces as well.
Unofficially, for Maxwell, Kristyn Cheek had 12 kills, Emory Christensen had six kills, and Rylynn Quick had three kills. The team posted nine aces.

Medicine Valley falls to 0-1 and will travel to Hi-Line on Tuesday.
Maxwell starts the season 1-0 and will face Shelton in the first round of the Overton Tournament on Saturday.
