The Wolves of Maywood-Hayes Center, seeded #3, competed in the semifinals of the Class D1 State Volleyball Tournament. They battled #7 seeded Cedar Catholic and lost in three sets. The set scores were 25-17, 25-20, and 25-15.
In the first set, the Trojans didn't take much time getting going as they took a 12-6 lead in the first set before Maywood-Hayes Center took a timeout. From there, Cedar Catholic continued to find success on the court.
In set two, the Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but then the Trojans went on a 7-1 run, forcing Maywood-Hayes Center to call a timeout. Later in the set, the Wolves started to climb back into it, down 24-20, but couldn't get any closer than that.
In the third set, Cedar Catholic came out ahead 7-4, but the Wolves pushed them early getting within one at 8-7. From there, Cedar Catholic took over, going on a 17-8 run to close the set and the match.
Unofficially, the Wolves were led by Olivia Hansen with eight kills.
Head Coach of the Wolves, Shayne Lawson, had this to say about regrouping for tomorrow's consolation match. "We recognized that Cedar Catholic is a very strong team and we knew it was going to be a tough game. Now we need to refocus, come together as a team, and want to end our season on a win."
The Wolves will play in the consolation game on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. versus BDS at Lincoln North Star. RPAC Rundown will be there to provide coverage.
Cedar Catholic will play Norfolk Catholic at 11:00 A.M. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center for the Class D1 State Championship.
