Maywood-Hayes Center Takes Down Sutherland in Week 1 of the Football Season

On Friday, August 28, 2026, week one of the high school football season began in Nebraska. Our first RPAC Rundown feature matchup included Maywood-Hayes Center hitting the road to play Sutherland.
In the first quarter, Jack Wallace of Sutherland ran it in from 4 yards out to give the Sailors a 6-0 lead. Edrien Hampton then rushed in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 with 9:06 to go in the first quarter.

Following a failed fourth-down attempt, Sutherland started with a short field on their second drive at about the 15-yard line. A few plays later, Hampton hit Teagan Fitzpatrick on a 10-yard pass. The two-point conversion was good, and it was 16-0 with 5:26 to go in the first quarter.
Sutherland then executed an onside kick and retained possession once again. They had the ball on the Wolves 25-yard line.
It was 16-0 heading into the second quarter
In the second quarter, Maywood-Hayes Center got on the board as Kade Broz ran it in from about 12 yards out. The two-point conversion was no good. It was 16-6 with 8:54 to go before halftime.
The Wolves kept the momentum rolling as Bentley Broz rushed in from 9 yards out to make it 16-12. The two-point conversion was good, and it was 16-14 with 3:11 to go before halftime.
That was the score going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the teams traded possessions, but no one scored. So we went to the final stanza with it 16-14 in favor of Sutherland.
With about 4:30 left in the game, Maywood-Hayes Center went for it on fourth down as they were on the Sutherland 18-yard line. They ran a screen pass, but it was incomplete. Sutherland took over.
On the very next play, though, the snap was fumbled, and Maywood-Hayes Center took possession back.
The Wolves capitalized on the miscue from Sutherland, as Kade Broz ran it in from 11 yards out to give the Wolves the lead.
The two-point conversion was good, and Maywood-Hayes Center took a 22- 16 lead.
The Sailors had a chance to answer with a score, but with under two minutes to go, Easton Gilmore intercepted a pass to seal the win for the Wolves.

Sutherland had 35 yards rushing as a team and 31 yards passing. Tristian Woolf had 38 yards rushing and Jack Wallace had 28 and a score. Jonah Saner had 21 yards passing and Eidren Hampton had 10. Wallace had two catches for 21 yards and Teagan Fitzpatrick had 10 yards and a score. Both Wallace and Fitzpatrick had interceptions.
The Wolves totaled 183 yards on the ground and seven yards passing. That 183 yards would have been much higher, but there were some negative plays. Kade Broz had 116 yards and two touchdowns. Quiad Brott had 68 yards, and Bentley Broz had 52 yards and a score. Oliver Anders had three sacks, and Easton Gilmore had an interception.
MHC is 1-0 and will play at home versus Southern Valley on Friday.
Sutherland falls to 0-2 and will host Cambridge on Friday.
