Maywood-Hayes Center Wins a Close One Against Bertrand

Bertrand played host to Maywood-Hayes Center in the regular season finale on Friday night. MHC was 0-7 coming into the game, and Bertrand was 3-4. MHC took the victory by a final score of 32-30.
Bertrand started fast with a 55-yard kickoff return by Thunder Nelson. It was 6-0 just 12 seconds in. Later in the quarter, Kade Broz of MHC scored on a 37-yard touchdown run, making it 6-6 with 7:02 in the first. MHC recovered its own kickoff and followed that up with a scoring drive. Broz scored again, this time from eight yards away; it was then 12-6.
The Vikings got on the board shortly after that as Waylon Olesen found Marshall Steinbrink on a 16-yard pass. The conversion was good, 14-12 Vikings heading to the second quarter.
Olseon found another receiver for a touchdown, as Cooper Langford caught the pass from 29 yards away. The Vikings led 22-12. The Wolves then scored on a 55-yard pass from Broz to Oliver Anders, and the two-point conversion was good. It was then 22-20.

MHC scored again before the half as Sawyer Dibbern scored on a 32-yard run. It was 26-22 at that point, and MHC held the lead going to halftime.
In the third quarter, Broz scored again, this time on a run from about 10 yards out with 8:58 to go in the period. It was 32-22. Bertrand scored on a Thunder Nelson 16-yard touchdown with 8:38 in the third. It was 32-30 after the conversion. That was the score heading to the final quarter.
The teams both had big defensive stops to close out the game.
