NSAA Approves Shot Clock for All Classes Beginning in 2024-2025 Season and Second Classification for Girls Wrestling

Thursday was a big day in high school sports for Nebraska. The NSAA passed the usage of a 35-second shot clock across all classes beginning next season. The vote was 6-2. The shot clock had been used in Classes A since 2022-2023 and B this past season. It is something that can be a controversial topic, so it will be interesting to see how teams adapt to the change.

Along with that, an 8-0 vote passed that there will be a second classification, a Class B in Girls Wrestling. Of course, Girls Wrestling is growing at a crazy fast pace so this is a need as more and more participants join the sport. Per the NSAA website, there were 168 high school girls wrestling teams in the state this past season.

In Thursday's meeting, the board voted 6-2 to sign Jennifer Schwartz to a two-year contract as the NSAA Executive Director. Schwartz has been serving as the interim since Jay Bellar retired in July of 2023.
