Here's another fun Q&A, this time with Maywood Hayes Center's Blayklee Farr!

Q. Pregame Ritual or superstition?

A. Having a Bible verse near me has been a definite ritual for me throughout my entire sports career. Writing verses on my taped-up fingers, my basketball shoes, or my track spikes has always helped me lock in. It’s a sense of calmness. The most meaningful verse to me and the one that I have clung to the most is the short version of Matthew 19:26, stating…“All things are possible.”

Q. What have you learned about teamwork in your days of playing sports?

A. COMMUNICATION! You gotta have it…no matter the sport! It’s the backbone! Coach to player, player to player, and player to self.. Nine times out of ten, if a plan of action is said out loud, you are going to follow through. My coaches have ALWAYS implemented this.

Q. Favorite Sports Hero?

A. My favorite sports hero isn't a famous athlete; it’s my brother, Haydn. I watched him battle and overcome an injury during his senior year. I had a front row seat to not only what he endured physically, but also mentally. It wasn’t until Haydn was back on the court that I realized what those healing days with him had taught me! He has continuously instilled so much into me. He’s responsible for my competitive drive, and motivated me to want to bust out of my own shadow early on and make a name for myself early in my career. Haydn’s love for Dennis Rodman has also worn off on me! He admired and embodied Rodman's hustle and determination. That determination helped him lead his team to a state championship in which I got another front seat to. My goal is for my team and I to step onto those same courts in the capital city!

Q. Favorite part about competing?

A. WINNING! Seriously though…I love the role of defense.

Q. How do you make practice fun?

A. I’ve got good girls…girls that bring a lot of energy and personality to the team! We have a lot of depth in our programs, which makes practice just as competitive as a game. We (obviously) get a lot of travel time together. Probably more time together than any other team. We know the second we hit the court or the track, it’s time to go to work.

Q Chocolate or Vanilla?

A. Vanilla ALL THE WAY! A rotten chocolate ice cream cone has ruined me for life.

Q. Favorite Pregame Meal?

A. Steak fajitas are my favorite pregame meal. Granola or a piece of fruit for the bus ride!

Q. Fruits or vegetables?

A. Tough choice…But I choose fruit!

Q. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

A. The ability to jump higher and dunk.

Q. Playlists or podcasts?

A. Playlist. I'm a big country music fan, new and old!
