On Saturday, the first-ever Nebraska 8-Man Football Classic will take place. Arapahoe is one of the teams competing in the event, as they will play Clarkson at 1:30 P.M. CT on Saturday, August 29th, at Grand Island Senior High. Let's break down the matchup.

ADVERTISEMENTS

For Arapahoe, they are coming off a 2025 campaign in which they went 2-6.

Trey Downey returns on the offensive and defensive line, and the 6'2, 220-pound senior is poised to have a big year. Rigley McDonald, a junior, may have a chance to be a big-time running back for Arapahoe as well, as he grows into the position.

Kronhofman mentioned seniors including senior QB/DB Briggs Hill (who is a multiple-time RPAC Rundown Honoree), Hudson Sich, Wyatt Soncksen, junior Edgar Diaz, and sophomore Makaden Dunn as players who could make an impact in 2026. They will compete in the D2-5 District.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Clarkson, formerly known as Clarkson/Leigh, as they co-oped in the past went 4-5 a year ago. As Clarkson/Leigh, they averaged over 300 yards rushing per game. They graduated a ton of experience, so it will be interesting to see who will play for the Coyotes. Senior Jeryn Struebing had 280 yards rushing and two touchdowns last season. So, needless to say, overall for this team, there are a ton of unknowns.
