Southern Valley

  • Record: 0-3

  • The Eagles are under the direction of Richard McDonald, in his 8th year, and have a record of 113-60.

  • On offense this season, the Eagles are still working to find their footing, averaging 38 points per game. On defense, they are allowing teams to score 55.3 points per game on average.

  • This team is a young team. Coach McDonald mentioned in his preseason comments that the team has 12 freshmen and sophomores.

  • One constant for the Eagles is Tori Bose, a senior. She averaged 11.5 points per game and eight boards last season. She is a consistent contributor for Southern Valley.

  • The Eagles utilize pressure defense and can make teams turn the ball over and convert those into easy buckets.

  • The Eagles are in the D1-11 Subdistrict with Arapahoe, Hi-Line, Maywood-Hayes Center, and Southwest.

Hi-Line

  • Hi-Line enters the mathcup with a record of 1-2

  • Head Coach: Len Fangmeyer, he's coached for 14 seasons, three at Hi-Line.

  • Hi-Line is also working to get their offense going as they average 23.3 points per game. On defense, they have found success, holding teams to 44 points per game.

  • This year, senior Bentley Stubbs is leading the Bulls in scoring at 5.3 points per game. She is also a solid rebounder at 7.0 per contest. Olivia Wall, a junior, is effective on the glass, averaging 6.7 rebounds per game.

  • This is a young team, too, with a number of freshmen and sophomores, nine total.

  • Hi-Line is in the D1-11 Sub too with  Arapahoe, Southern Valley, Maywood-Hayes Center, and Southwest.

Now for the boys matchup between the Bulls and the Eagles.

Southern Valley

  • Head Coach: Ashley Huerta, first year, a Southern Valley Alum. She has put together a staff of Clayton Berry, Dan Hunt, and Mike Lanham.

  • The record this season is 1-2: they had a nice win on Tuesday night over Cambridge on the road.

  • On the season, they are averaging 50 points per game, so it's a nice start to the year when it comes to scoring. They allow 61.3 points per game, but all three of their opponents this year are solid on offense. (Minden, Elm Creek, and Cambridge.)

  • Isaac Hamilton is a steady offensive force, entering the week, he was averaging 25 points per game.

  • For the Eagles, they do play underclassmen like freshmen Houston Hunt, Hunter Lans, Kyson Bose, and others.

  • The Eagles are in the D1-11 Subdistrict with Arapahoe, Bertrand, Cambridge, Southern Valley, and Southwest.

Hi-Line

  • Head Coach: Ben Edgecombe, first year, was an assistant on the staff last season.

  • The Bulls have compiled a record of 2-1 for 2025-2026.

  • The Bulls are averaging 40.3 points per game, so they are still working on the offensive side, but man, are they solid on defense so far, allowing just 36 points per game.

  • Entering this week, junior Kane Cochrane led the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game and has been good on defense at 4.5 steals per game. Brody Deifenbaugh is averaging 10.5 points per game and has been strong on the glass at eight rebounds per contest.

  • Based on last season, this team plays with a high level of effort. I will be watching for that again in this one.

  • Hi-Line is in Region 3 for Class C2.
