The Southern Valley/Alma Saints had three games this past week and they were able to nab one win in that trio of games. Last Tuesday they faced off against Lexington and won 18-6. The Saints started strong, scoring six runs in the first inning. Lexington countered with three of their own in the home half of the first.
The Saints put up three more in the second, Lexington then scored three again and the Minutemaids trailed 9-3. After that, it was all Southern Valley/Alma as they scored nine unanswered to close the game.
Offensively, it was a well-balanced effort. Izzy Dubbs went 3-3 with three RBIs, Kaitlyn Bradley went 2-3 with three RBIs, and Zalie White was 2-3 with three RBIs.
In the circle, Josa Dunse went three innings and had three strikeouts and five earned runs. Brynn Bailey came in relief and pitched two innings, allowed 0 runs, and had three strikeouts.
The Saints then took on Cozad on Thursday and fell 9-1. Cozad scored a trio of runs in the bottom of the first, and Southern Valley/Alma answered with a run of their own. But, Cozad scored another one to go up 4-1 in the bottom of the second.
In the fourth inning, Cozad was able to distance themselves and score five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to create the gap to ensure the win.
For Southern Valley/Alma, White went 1-2 with an RBI. Bailey went 1-2 at the plate too.
In the Saints' final game of the week, they played Gothenburg on Saturday and lost 11-3. Southern Valley/Alma scored in the top of the first but Gothenburg scored as well. Then in the second, the Swedes opened it up scoring five runs. The Saints got within three runs in the top of the fourth inning as they trailed 6-3. The Swedes scored four runs after that in the bottom of the fourth, and then one more in the home half of the fifth to close the game. Bailey went 1-2 with two RBIs.
The Saints are now 5-8 on the season and will face CCV on Tuesday and Hershey on Thursday.
