Southern Valley and Bertrand Battle on the Basketball Court on Thursday Night

On Thursday, the 8th of January 2026, Bertrand played host to RPAC East rival Southern Valley for a girls and boys double header on the basketball court. 


In the girls game, Southern Valley won 48-35.


Bertrand had a very promising start, leading 10-7 after the first eight minutes. At the start of the second quarter, Southern Valley goes on a 7 to 0 run to make it 14 to 10. Bertrand took a time out with four 4:48 seconds to go before halftime. The Eagles pressed forward, scoring 18 points in the period, but Bertrand stayed within striking distance and trailed 25-19 at the intermission.

In the third, Southern Valley pressed on by scoring 15 points while holding Bertrand to six. Going to the final stanza, Southern Valley led 40-25.


To start the fourth quarter, Bertrand went on a little run; they were down 43-33 with 4:25 to go, and Southern Valley called a timeout. 


The Eagles prevented the comeback with strong defense and offense and closed out the victory.


For Bertrand, the team was led by nine points from Addie Andersen and Adrian Sand. Livia Philips and Baylee Kipp each scored six.


Southern Valley was paced by Emercen Lovitt with 19 points and Tori Bose with 12. Lauren Quinn added seven.


Bertrand is now 4-8 and will play South Loup on the road on Saturday, January 10th. Southern Valley is 6-7 and will host Chase County on January 13th.

In the boys game, Bertrand won 51-40


Bertrand came out on a 5-0 run to start the game. Southern Valley, about halfway through the corner, was able to calm the storm. But Bertrand went on a little run again. They led 14-6 after the first quarter.


In the second quarter, the physicality and intensity ramped up. Bertrand led at halftime 26-18.

With just over five minutes to go in the third quarter, Bertrand led 29-20. But a pair of Houston Hunt three-pointers made it 29-26. Bertrand took a time out with 5:08 to go in the third. Southern Valley and Bertrand continued to battle, and the Vikings had a 35-33 lead heading to the fourth quarter. 



Southern Valley tied things up at 35 with just over six minutes to go. Bertrand went back up 40-35 with 3:47 to go in the game.

Scottie Bieker hit a big three-pointer with 1:47 to go in the game to make it 45-35. Southern Valley, though, would not go away. Houston Hunt hit a three-pointer, and Kyson Bose had a layup to make it 45-40 with about a minute to go.


The Vikings, though, went on a 6-0 run to close out the game. 



Houston Hunt had a nice game for the Eagles with 16 points, including four made three-pointers. Hunter Lans had 10 points, and Isaac Hamilton had nine points.


For Bertrand, Thunder Nelson had 23 points, and Scottie Bieker had 21.


Bertrand is now 9-3 and will face South Loup on the road on Saturday, January 10th. Southern Valley will host Arapahoe on Saturday, January 10th.
