TROJANS DOMINATE HOME OPENER

Tye Stanton tip-toes down the sideline in his monster game versus Pleasanton

CAMBRIDGE-Physicality was the name of the game for the Trojans on Friday night in our RPAC Rundown Game of the Week. Cambridge hosted the Pleasanton Bulldogs and won big, 66-42. The Trojans used a balanced attack in the game with 380 rushing and 240 yards passing in the win.

Cambridge started out strong, as Will Taylor caught a 71 yard pass from Carson Trompke to get things started as the Trojans jumped out to an 8-0 lead at the 10:18 mark in the first quarter. Pleasanton was able to counter with a score of their own as Copeland Carstens scored to make it 8-6. The squads traded scores with the remaining time in the first quarter as Tye Stanton punched in a touchdown for the Trojans and Gavin Zwiener scored as well. Heading to the second quarter, Cambridge led 16-14.

In the second quarter, Will Taylor again caught a big pass, this time from 64 yards out to push the lead to 22-14. Cambridge was able to get a stop on the next possession, and then score once again on a Tye Stanton run, to make it 28-14. The Bulldogs countered with a score of their own making it 28-20, but the Trojans refocused and from there, they took over. They had touchdowns punched in by Kohan Grindle as he scored two times in the second period. Cambridge went into the half leading 52-20.

After the half, Pleasanton came out strong and scored on a 47 yard run by Carstens, but the Trojans were able to counter with a touchdown of their own. Cambridge went into the final quarter leading 58-34.

In the final stanza, the Trojans leaned heavily on Tye Stanton to lead them to the victory as he toted the rock in many key situations to get the win.

Earlier this week when chatting with Head Coach of the Cambridge Trojans Catlin Rice, he said his team needs to be more physical. He felt like his team answered the bell in that facet of the game. "It was the last thing we talked about before coming down to the field. Getting eight hats to the football and being physical. And I thought we did that very well.," Said Rice.

For the Trojans the stat sheet was full. Carson Trompke was effective as he threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns, Kohan Grindle had 140 all purpose yards and three touchdowns. Also, Will Taylor had 171 yards receiving and two touchdowns, Tayten Koeppen was effective out of the backfield with five carries for 74 yards and a touchdown, and Tye Stanton had 151 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Cambridge will battle Ravenna next week and for Pleasanton they will take on Ansley-Litchfield.
