Vikings Earn First Win Over Raiders Tuesday Night

It's homecoming week in Bertrand, and the Vikings hosted Medicine Valley on Tuesday night. Both teams were hunting for their first wins of the season. It took all five sets, but Bertrand emerged with the 3-2 win. Check out the blog for more.
In set one, Medicine Valley jumped out early as they were strong from the service line. They led the Vikings 3-0 and extended that lead to 6-1, forcing a Bertrand timeout. The Vikings were able to string a few points together, but the Raiders were serving tough as they extended the lead to 12-4 and eventually 16-8. After another Viking timeout, they were able to regroup to try and climb back into the match and forced the Raiders to use a timeout at 23-20. The deficit was just too large for Bertrand to come out of as Medicine Valley took set one, 25-21. In that set, Medicine Valley had five aces.
In set two, the roles were flipped. It was Bertrand who got on the board first and got out to a 3-0 lead. They pushed that lead, but Medicine Valley was staying in touch, 7-5. Adlea Hock of Bertrand was great on the service line for the Vikings, helping them stretch their lead to 12-8. At 15-9, the Raiders had to call a timeout to try to slow the Vikings' momentum. Bertrand took the second set, 25-14.
In set three, Bertrand took the first points and jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Medicine Valley wasn't letting them get too far as they pulled within one, 5-4. The two went back and forth, but Bertrand started to create some separation, 10-6, and Medicine Valley called a timeout. Out of the break, the Vikings extended their lead, 18-9, and forced the Raiders to call another timeout. Medicine Valley tried to come back, but Bertrand was able to take the third set, 25-16, and the 2-1 lead.
In set four, Medicine Valley jumped to a 4-0 lead as Kamree Elsten had three aces to start the set. The Vikings trailed 6-3 and struggled to keep Medicine Valley within reach as they fell behind 12-9. Medicine Valley took a 15-11 lead and forced Bertrand to call a timeout. The Raiders took the fourth set, 25-19, and evened the match at 2-2.
In the fifth and deciding set, Bertrand took the first point, but the Raiders evened it up at 2-2. The Vikings pulled ahead to 6-4 and eventually 11-7, forcing Medicine Valley to call a timeout. Bertrand ended up taking the fifth set, 15-10, and the match, 3-2.

Unofficially, for Medicine Valley, they had 12 aces. Oakley Stout and TeeJay Hildebrandt each posted 12 kills.
Unofficially, for Bertrand, they had 18 aces. Addy Sand had 13 kills, Livia Philips had 12 kills, Adlea Hock had eight kills, and Addison Andersen had five kills.

Medicine Valley is 0-4 and will face Dundy County Stratton on Thursday at home.
Bertrand improves to 1-4 and will host a triangular with Cozad and Hi-Line on Thursday.
