Vikings Sweep the Raiders on Friday Evening, Bieker Scores 42 Points in the Boys Game for Bertrand

Medicine Valley hosted Bertrand on Friday night for a girls and boys double-header. Bertrand came away with wins in both of the games.

In the girls game, Medicine Valley found the first basket of the game after the two squads made several trips up the court. The Raiders took a 5-0 lead until Bertrand answered with a basket of their own at the 4:44 mark to make the score 5-2. After a pair of free throws from Addison Andersen, the Vikings pulled within one, 5-4, with 3:23 left in the first quarter. Bertrand called a timeout with 3:15 left in the quarter to regroup, and after the timeout, the Vikings took a 6-5 lead. Medicine Valley then called a timeout with 2:11 left in the quarter. Bertrand had the lead after the first quarter, 8-5.


Livia Philips hit a three-pointer for Bertrand to start the second quarter. The two exchanged possessions for a few minutes, but the Vikings then extended their lead to 12-5 with 4:06 left, and Medicine Valley called a timeout. The Raiders hit a three-pointer out of the timeout to cut the deficit to 12-8. Bertrand responded with a three-pointer of their own to extend the lead. The Vikings led 18-8 at halftime.

Bertrand hit a shot right after the break, and the Raiders hit a couple of free throws before the offenses went cold. The Raiders called a timeout with just over four minutes left in the third quarter. After the timeout, Bertrand found the bottom of the basket. Bertrand remained in the lead at the end of the third quarter, 28-14.


At the start of the fourth quarter, the Vikings maintained their offensive momentum and extended their lead to 32-14 before the Raiders found the bottom of the basket at the 4:12 mark. Then, the Raiders forced some turnovers and knocked down some shots to force Bertrand to call a timeout with 3:54 left. Bertrand had the 32-19 lead. With 2:48 left in the quarter, Bertrand remained in the lead, 39-19. The Vikings went on to win the game, 40-20.



For Medicine Valley, Delaney Evans had nine points, and Oakley Stout and Kamree Elsten each added four points.


For Bertrand, Addison Andersen had 20 points, and Adrian Sand had eight points.


The Raiders are now 3-16 and are off until next Thursday when they host Maxwell.


The Vikings are now 7-14 and are off until Friday when they travel to Arapahoe.

Now let's dive into the boys game.


Bertrand hit the first basket of the game after winning the tip. They went up 4-0, and then the Raiders hit some shots too. They traded trips up the court and buckets, and both were crashing the glass. With two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Bertrand led 10-7. At the end of the first quarter, the Vikings led 15-9.


The big story in this one was Scottie Bieker for Bertrand. He scored, and then scored some more. 42 points in total. The Raiders just didn't have an answer for him as he dominated in the post.


Medicine Valley hit the first shot of the second quarter, but Bertrand quickly responded. Medicine Valley called a timeout with 6:25 left in the quarter and the Vikings leading 18-11. Bertrand then forced turnovers and went on a run and extended their lead to 31-16 at the 3:00 mark. At the end of the first half, the Vikings led the Raiders, 40-22.

Bertrand hit a three-pointer to start the second half, but Medicine Valley answered right back. The Raiders were crashing the offensive glass hard, and it paid off as they went on a little run to cut the deficit. With 4:00 left in the quarter, Medicine Valley pulled it within 11, 45-34. The Vikings called a timeout with 3:53 left in the quarter and led 47-34. Both teams were running the floor and capitalizing on their transition offense. Medicine Valley called a timeout with 1:22 left in the quarter, trailing 54-41. With 39.3 seconds left, Lucas Einspahr came away with the steal and made his layup before getting fouled. He hit the free-throw for the three-point play to pull within eight and make the score 55-47, Bertrand. The Vikings led 57-49 at the end of the quarter.


Einspahr hit a three-pointer to start the final stanza and made the score 57-52 in favor of Bertrand. The Raiders were strong in transition and crashing the glass effectively early in the quarter. Bertrand extended their lead back to 10 points, 62-52, with 5:30 left in the quarter. The Vikings called a timeout with 4:11 left in the game, and the score remained the same. Bertrand went on to defeat the Raiders, 69-56.



For Medicine Valley, Ethan Brown had 18 points, Lucas Einspahr had 16 points, and Alex Einspahr had 10 points.


For Bertrand, Scottie Bieker had 42 points, and Thunder Nelson had 12 points.


The Raiders are now 11-8 and are off until next Thursday when they host Maxwell.


The Vikings are now 17-4 and are off until Friday when they travel to Arapahoe.
