Wallace Defeats Southwest in a Thriller

On Friday, October 2, 2026, we had a Top 10 matchup in Class D6 at Southwest as they hosted Wallace. This was a thriller of a game, with Wallace winning 20-13.

On Wallace's opening possession, they moved the ball, but back-to-back negative plays forced a turnover on downs, and the Roughriders took over.
Southwest moved the ball to Wallace's 30-yard line, but we couldn't do much more, as the Wildcats forced a string of negative plays. Southwest punted it away.
On the first play of the next possession for Wallace, Tyson Sullivan ran it in from 65 yards away to give the Wildcats a 6-0 lead with 1:44 to go in the first quarter.

Southwest answered with a 74-yard kickoff return touchdown by Jacob Barber. The one-point conversion was good, and the first quarter ended with the score at 7-6.
That score remained the same in the second quarter; we went to halftime with Southwest up by one.
At about the halfway point of the third quarter, Wallace was driving, but Southwest forced a fumble and took over near midfield.

Wallace, though, made a big stop as the Roughriders advanced to the 31-yard line but turned it over on downs.
The defensive stand continued into the fourth quarter, with Southwest still up by one, 7-6.

A couple of plays into the fourth quarter, Ashtin Johns scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was good, and the Wildcats led 14-7 with 9:17 to go.
Southwest answered with a touchdown of their own when Deric Kelley found Bo Truksa on a 6-yard touchdown pass. The conversion attempt failed, and Wallace led 14-13 with 6:21 to go.
After a long kickoff return by Tyson Sullivan, he capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. The conversion failed, and Wallace led 20-13 with 4:45 to go.
Deric Kelley countered with a long keeper return of his own as he took it all the way down to the Wallace 13-yard line.

On fourth down, Brody Hammond found Deric Kelley on a 10-yard pass, and he was stopped just short of the goal line. It was a turnover on downs.
Southwest got one more opportunity to score, but they couldn't as time expired. Wallace earned the 20-13 win over the Roughriders.

Southwest had 75 passing yards and 58 rushing yards. Deric Kelley had 50 receiving yards and 15 rushing yards. He also threw for 50 yards and threw a touchdown. Jacob Barber had. a 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Conner Weaver had 26 yards rushing. Southwest is now 3-2 and will face Paxton at home on Friday.
For Wallace, they had 277 yards rushing and 18 yards passing. Tyson Sullivan was excellent with 264 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Ashtin Johns totaled 28 yards and a touchdown. Wallace is now 4-1 and will play at home versus SEM on Friday.
