Wauneta-Palisade Sweeps Hitchcock County to Begin the Volleyball Season

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, we had our first coverage for the volleyball season. It featured a matchup between Wauneta-Palisade and Hitchcock County.
In the first set, Wauneta-Palisade jumped out to a 12-4 lead. But Hitchcock County was able to climb back into it and get it within five at 15 to 10. After that, though, Wauneta-Palisade was able to go on a little bit of a run and led 21-14 before a timeout was taken by the Falcons.

Out of the timeout, Katelyn Cook was able to terminate and cut the deficit 21-15. The Broncos though, slammed the door on any comeback attempt winning 25-15.
In the second set, it was a much more competitive match and it went down to the wire. Late in the set, Hitchcock County took a timeout trailing 23-21.

The Broncos took set two, 25-21.
After starting the third set of 10 to 3, Wauneta-Palisade allowed Hitchcock County to climb back into it and they held their lead of 10-9. The Broncos though, took control of the match leading 22-14 as a timeout was called. The Broncos won the set and the match 25-16.

Unofficial Stats
For Hitchcock County, Katelyn Cook led the way with 12 kills, and Ensley Lawless had five kills. They had four aces as a team.
For Wauneta-Palisade, Emma Acton had 14 kills and defensively the Broncos played well.
