Wolves Win a Pair of Games Against the Sailors

On Tuesday evening, December 17th, the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves made the trip to Sutherland for a girls and boys basketball doubleheader. MHC came out on top in both games. Let's check out the recap.
In the girls matchup, MHC won by a final score of 59-11. In the first few minutes of the game, neither team could get the lid off the rim. eventually though, MHC found a groove and led 15-2 heading to the second.
In the next period, MHC kept rolling, scoring 25 points and holding the Sailors to 0. In the third quarter, Sutherland found some success on offense, scoring six points. MHC scored 17 points in the quarter.

In the final period, several players saw the floor, and each squad scored two points.
For Sutherland, Leah Harper scored four points, Phoenix Brown had three, and Drew Rotert had three. The Sailors played with great effort.
Sutherland is now 0-4 and will face Wallace on the road on Thursday.
For MHC, Caylie Softley led the Wolves with 14 points, Ayleen Hernandez had nine, Karissa Stengel had seven, and Ava Messersmith added six. MHC is 4-1 and will face Brady at home on Thursday.

In the boys game, we had a competitive match for the majority of the contest, until a strong final 12 minutes from MHC resulted in them getting the 61-39 win. In the first quarter, the defensive intensity was high, and the Wolves had a narrow lead of 9-8 heading to the second.
In the second period, both teams were running efficient offense. MHC was getting second-chance points, and Sutherland found some success in the mid-range and from three-point land. MHC led at the half, 27-23.

In the third quarter, MHC ramped up the pressure and hit some easy buckets, leading 43-31 heading into the final quarter. In the last quarter, MHC kept up its strong play, and Sutherland continued to show great effort; the Wolves outscored Sutherland 18-8 to close out the game.

For Sutherland, Easton Smith had nine points, as did Mason Mortimer. Zayn Green had eight points and was tough on the rebounds, too. Jackson Saner had six. The Sailors are 2-2 and will face Wallace on Thursday on the road.
MHC is 5-1 and will play Brady at home on Thursday. Keenan Richards and Oliver Anders each had 16 points. Charlie Callis had eight, and Landen Littrel had six.
