Alma is Headed to the NSAA Girls State Basketball Tournament for the First Time Ever

Updated: Mar 1

What a night for the Cardinals Girls Basketball Team and the Alma Community. For the first time in their school's history, Alma is heading to the NSAA Girls State Basketball Tournament after beating Brady 63-23. For the Cardinals, they have been close so many times.

Since the 2019-2020 season, Alma has played in district finals in 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024, and now in 2025. And 2025 was the year they made it happen.

What was key for Alma in this one was ball pressure and getting run outs. Also, the Cardinals were shooting the ball incredibly well.

Alma took control from the jump, getting out in front and refused to look back. After the first quarter, Alma was up 20-5. They began the second quarter on a 6-0 run before Brady scored. Alma kept pressing forward and they were up 36-14 at the intermission.

In the third quarter, Alma kept their foot on the gas and built the lead up even more, and the Cardinals were up 48-17. In the fourth period, Alma closed things out in a strong way by outscoring Brady 15-6.

After the game, we chatted with Miley Whitney and Tierston Moore of the Cardinals about the win, and making history. Postgame interviews are brought to you by Acme Printing Company.

For Brady, Lydia McGown, Kenlee Fattig, and Taryn Stearns each had six points. Ella Lydie had three points.

Alma had three players in double-figures: Tierston Moore scored 17, Kamryn Scott scored 16, and Miley Whitney scored 10. Chayse Molzahn had eight.

For Alma, they will play in the State Tournament, the brackets have not yet been released, but they will begin play on Wednesday, March 5th.
