BERTRAND WINTER SPORTS PREVIEW

Loomis-Bertrand Wrestling Features Experienced Squad

For the Loomis-Bertrand Wrestling team, it will be an experienced team in a tough C-4 district in 2022-2023. Last year the Wolfkings didn't have any juniors or seniors on the roster. That has changed for this upcoming wrestling season and head coach Dustin Freeman is excited about this year's group. "Loomis-Bertrand will have a good number of wrestlers out as this looks to be the largest team for the Wolfkings in quite a few years. The increase in numbers is a result of a big incoming class of freshmen but also a return to the team of some upperclassmen as well. The team will have a mix of experience levels....The increased numbers will hopefully lead to a competitive room where individuals push each other which makes the whole team stronger. Being able to get to the proper weight classes to fill out the team roster will be something that could help the Wolfkings be more competitive as a team."

Loomis-Bertrand will begin the wrestling season on Thursday, December 1st at a quad meet at Southwest.

Bertrand Girl's Basketball Under Direction of New Head Coach

For the Bertrand Vikings, they will be under the direction of a new head coach. Kelsey Cole, whose maiden name was Kelsey Sanger, a standout for the UNK Women's basketball program will take the reins for Bertrand. "We are a young group with a limited number of girls who work hard and want to do well. With a tough schedule ahead, we will have lots of opportunities to learn and grow throughout the season," said Cole.

Bertrand will start the season on Thursday, December 1st at home versus Alma.

Vikings Return Core, Expect to be Competitive

A year ago the Bertrand Vikings went 12-13. That record didn't indicate how tough they were on the court as they competed in the RPAC Title game, falling to Dundy County Stratton. This year, they return a solid core for the 2022-2023 season, including three starters. Head coach of the Vikings Craig Newcomb highlights what expects to see from his team. "We have a solid core of lettermen returning; with good size and quickness...We should be very competitive with everyone on our schedule."

Bertrand will rely on seniors Chonsey Bieker, a senior that stands at 6'6, Owen Kaps, and Lathan Fitzgerald to lead the way.
