Hitchcock County Hosted Wallace Friday Night for Hoops Action

Hitchcock County hosted Wallace on Friday night. It was a Falcon sweep on Friday night. In the girls game, Hitchcock County got the 52-13 win. In the boys game, Hitchcock County secured the 63-51.

Let's start with the girls game.


Hitchcock County got the first bucket of the game to take a 2-0 lead early. The Falcons held on to a 4-0 lead for a couple of minutes before Wallace got a bucket to make the score 4-2 with five minutes left in the first quarter. With 2:20 left in the quarter, Hitchcock County extended the lead to 8-2. The Falcons had a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

At the start of the second quarter, the Falcons hit free throws, ran some transition offense, and hit a three-pointer, extending their lead to 18-3 with 5:30 left in the first half. Wallace called a timeout with 3:15 remaining in the quarter, trailing 20-6. At the end of the first half, Hitchcock County led Wallace, 22-6.


Hitchcock County found a bucket right out of the half to get a strong start, 25-6. Hitchcock County found some offense in both the halfcourt and transition, extending its lead to 35-6 with 2:20 left in the third quarter. The Falcons had a 38-7 lead at the end of the third quarter.


In the fourth quarter, Hitchcock County was able to move the ball and add a few buckets. At 3:30 left in the game, the Falcons led 49-11 over Wallace. Hitchcock County went on to win, 52-13.



Wallace was led by Kaley Sauser with six points.


Hitchcock County was led by Madysen Carlson with 11 points, and Rilynn Cook had 10 points.


The Wildcats are now 2-18 and will move on to district play. Wallace is the #5 seed in the D2-9 subdistrict and will face #4 Medicine Valley on Monday at 6:00 P.M. CT at Medicine Valley.


The Falcons are now 8-15 and will move on to district play. Hitchcock County is the #3 seed in the D2-9 subdistrict and will face #2 Cambridge on Tuesday at 6:00 P.M. MT at Dundy County Stratton.

Let's move to the boys game.


Wallace struck first and jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead with 6:27 left in the first quarter, and Hitchcock County called a timeout. Out of that timeout, the two traded a few trips up the floor before Wallace was able to get another bucket to push their lead to 7-0. At the 4:44 mark, the Falcons got their first bucket to make the score 7-2. By the four-minute mark, the Falcons pulled within three, 7-4. With 2:59 left in the first, Hitchcock County tied it up at 7-7, and the Wildcats called a timeout. Wallace hit a three-pointer to take the 10-7 lead. Wallace led 14-9 after the first quarter.

Hitchcock County went on a little run to start the second quarter and pulled within two points at the 6:00 mark, 14-12. Wallace hit a three with 5:15 left in the half to pull ahead 17-12. After a three from the Falcons, it was tied up at 19-19 with 3:40 left. Hitchcock County took the 21-17 lead, but Wallace had an answer to tie it back up at 21-21 with 2:10 left in the first half. The two teams went into the half tied at 26-26.



The Falcons hit the first bucket of the second half to take a 28-26 lead with 7:00 left in the quarter. Wallace called a timeout with 6:28 left in the third, trailing 30-26. The Falcons started to find their groove, taking a 35-27 lead at the 5:00 mark. By the 1:45 mark, Hitchcock County extended its lead to six points, 37-31. At the end of the third quarter, Hitchcock County led, 40-34.


At the start of the fourth quarter, Wallace hit a shot right away to pull within four, 40-36. By the 5:00 mark, the Falcons extended the lead to 43-37. Wallace called a timeout, trailing 45-37 with 4:50 left in the game. With 3:16 left in the game, the Falcons took a 10-point lead, 51-41. With 90 seconds left in the game, Hitchcock County held onto a 58-51 lead. The Falcons defeated Wallace, 63-51.

Wallace was led by Colt Franklin with 19 points and Max Hanson with 18 points.


Hitchcock County was led by Adam Kisker with 28 points, Grady Erickson with 10 points, and Jayce Hauxwell with 10 points.


The Wildcats are now 16-6 and will play Grand Island Lutheran Saturday morning in the Heartland Hoops Classic in Grand Island. At the time of publishing this, the score had not yet been reported.


The Falcons are now 13-10 and will battle Bridgeport on Friday next week.
