RPAC Volleyball Results as of 11/9

The volleyball season wrapped up on Saturday with teams competing at the state tournament. Cambridge and Dundy County Stratton competed in Class D2, and Southwest competed in Class D1. Check out how the teams fared at the state tournament in the blog.

Cambridge


The #3-seeded Trojans started their tournament with #6 Mullen on Thursday morning. The Trojans earned the 3-0 sweep with set scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-16. The Trojans were strong for the service line as they had 12 aces in the match. Brooklyn Holtze had 19 kills, five assists, nine digs, and two blocks; Mallory Springer had 13 assists, six aces, and 14 digs; Joslyn Holtze had six digs and three blocks; Elisabeth Kubik had six digs; and Kolbryn Clason had six assists, four aces, and 11 digs. That win advanced the Trojans to the semifinals, where they faced #2 SEM on Friday morning. SEM took the first set 26-24, and Cambridge took the next three sets, 30-28, 25-14, and 25-20, to win the match 3-1 and advance to the state championship game. For Cambridge, they hit .216% as a team and held SEM to .097%. Brooklyn Holtze had 29 kills hitting .243%, 19 assists, and 14 digs; Joslyn Holtze had 13 kills, four assists, seven digs, and two blocks; Mallory Springer had 12 kills, 28 assists, six aces, and 23 digs; Elisabeth Kubik had four assists and 17 digs; Kolbryn Clason had six digs and two blocks; and Annabelle Taylor hit a perfect 1.000% with four kills on four swings, 13 digs, and one block to win the match. On Championship Saturday, the Trojans faced #1 Wynot. Cambridge took set one 25-19, Wynot took set two 25-21, Cambridge took set three 25-16, and Wynot took the fourth and fifth sets with set scores of 25-17 and 15-5. Wynot clinched their first state championship in school history, and Cambridge brought home the Class D2 State Runner-up trophy. Brooklyn Holtze had 22 kills, 21 assists, and 15 digs; Mallory Springer had 21 kills, 21 assists, and 25 digs; Joslyn Holtze had 16 kills and nine digs; Annabelle Taylor had four digs and two blocks; Kolbyn Clason had seven assists, two aces, and two digs; and Elisabeth Kubik had seven assists and 16 digs. Cambridge wrapped up their season with a record of 28-8 and the Class D2 State Runner-up trophy. This is the fourth runner-up trophy in school history, with the most recent being in 2023.

Dundy County Stratton


The #4 Tigers faced #5 Garden County in the quarterfinals on Thursday. DCS earned the 3-0 sweep with set scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-17. Emily Schack had 15 kills, two aces, and seven digs; Abi Spargo had 12 kills, eight digs, and five blocks; Clara Spargo had 11 kills, three digs, and five blocks; Ava Lutz had seven digs and two blocks; Lexie Yrkoski had eight digs; Kimberly Escobar had six digs; and Bree Lutz had two aces, seven digs, and 33 assists. In the semifinal round on Friday, the Tigers faced #1 Wynot. DCS took the first set with a set score of 25-23, and then Wynot took the next three sets with set scores of 25-20, 25-12, and 25-23 to win the match, 3-1. Clara Spargo had 15 kills, two aces, and 13 digs; Emily Schack had 14 kills and 17 digs; Abi Spargo had nine kills, 12 digs, and seven blocks; Ava Lutz had seven kills and six digs; Bree Lutz had 35 assists and 10 digs; and Kimberly Escobar had seven digs. In the consolation match on Saturday, the Tigers faced #2 SEM. This was a rematch for the Tigers. SEM took the first two sets 25-19 and 25-20. The Tigers responded and took sets three and four with set scores of 25-21 and 25-20 to force a fifth set. It was SEM who took the fifth set, 15-7, and the match, 3-2. DCS made school history, earning their first win in the state tournament on Thursday and a 4th-place finish. The Tigers also earned the Class D2 Sportsmanship award.


The Tigers finished their season with a record of 27-8.

Southwest


Southwest was the #7 seed in Class D1. The Roughriders were slated for a rematch with #2 Overton for the third time this season on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinal match.

Overton took sets one and two with set scores of 27-25 and 25-22, Southwest took the third set 25-18, and Overton took the fourth set 25-21 and the match 3-1. Kyra Nelms had 27 kills, seven digs, and two blocks; Anikka Nelms had 19 kills, two aces, and 16 digs; Aspen Billeter had 37 assists, three aces, and 26 digs; Alivia Cure had 11 digs; Caitlyn Adams had seven assists and 11 digs; and Bellamie Stritt had 14 digs. The Roughriders earned the Class D1 Sportsmanship Award as well.


Southwest ends its season with a 28-6 record.
