SOUTHERN VALLEY FALL SEASON PREVIEW

Eagles Look to Build in Year Two Under Adams

For the Southern Valley Football team, it was a tough year in which they went 1-7. But throughout the season you could see flashes of really solid play. In his second year as the head coach, Justin Adams does expect to see his team grow.

"Last season we spent a majority of time working on the fundamentals of football and working on installing some basic principles of a program. This season we will look to grow and improve. We return many of our key contributors from last season. Kamden Bose will return his two favorite passing targets from last season, and this should lead him to have a huge jump going into this season."

Bose, a junior, had 876 yards passing and 10 TD's last season and one of his favorite receivers returns, senior Mitch Wilson. Wilson had 26 catches for 302 yards.

On the defensive side, senior Mason Noel will be the anchor as he was a First Team All-District Performer with 120 tackles a year ago.

Southern Valley will begin the season on Friday, August 26th at home against Sandhills Valley.

Saints Softball Enter Season with Minimal Experience

For the 2022 softball season the Southern Valley-Alma Saints will feature a young team. They have just one senior returning for the team but Head Coach Brad Reaves mentioned that his team should be much improved by the end of the season.

What will help the Saints though, is a pair of hitters that had nice seasons a year ago. Brynn Baily a sophomore, had a .402 average, four home runs, and 30 RBI's. Senior Natasha Hock also was able to hit for average as she totaled a .434.

Southern Valley begins the season on Friday, August 19th at home versus Chadron.

New Year, New Class for Southern Valley Cross Country

After many years of co-oping with Alma for cross country, the Southern Valley Eagles will be on their own this season. This will bring a nice change, like being in Class D but also some challenges like lower numbers, naturally. After being the assistant coach for the past three years, Kristi Bose takes over the head coaching position.

Bose says they are excited bout the changes. "This is the first year for us to be on our own. Previously we co-oped with Alma. I'm excited for the opportunity for runners at both schools to compete at the Class D level." One of the Eagles top returning runners is Tayley Becker, a sophomore. She placed second at RPAC last year.

Southern Valley will begin the season on Thursday, August 25th at the Medicine Valley Invite.

Southern Valley Volleyball Looks to Build Off of Last Season

Last year Southern Valley's Volleyball team went 13-15. The Eagles did lose a wealth of experience, which included six seniors. But, the Eagles do return three starters from last year's team. This includes junior Ann Bose, who had 377 kills last year and was a First Team All-Conference performer.

Also returning for the Eagles is a pair of juniors, Adi Hunt and Brecklyn Hammond. Head Coach of the Eagles Ali Hoiser says their squad is ready to improve their record. "(We are) looking to improve our overall record and putting up some good stats for our girls."

Southern Valley will start the season on Friday August 25th versus Hi-Line on the road.
