Hitchcock County hosted Arapahoe and Dundy County Stratton for a triangular on Thursday evening. Arapahoe swept Hitchcock County, and Dundy County Stratton defeated the Falcons in three sets. What a night of volleyball. Wow, it was great to watch these three teams compete hard. Check out the blog for more!

In the first match, Arapahoe battled with Hitchcock County. The Warriors jumped out and took the lead first, 2-0. They kept the pressure on the Falcons and capitalized on their service errors, leading 6-2. Hitchcock County pulled within two, 8-6, but Arapahoe was able to keep the pressure on as they extended the lead to 13-7. The Falcons weren't going down without a fight, though, as they again pulled within two, 16-14. Arapahoe strung together a couple more points and forced a Hitchcock County timeout, 18-14. The Falcons responded out of the timeout as they tied it at 18-18 and forced Arapahoe to call a timeout. They went back and forth, exchanging points, and were tied at 20-20. Arapahoe had the lead 23-22 with Grace Andrews at the service line. Andrews had back-to-back aces to close out the set. Arapahoe took set one 25-22 and the 1-0 lead.

Set two was a similar story. Arapahoe struck first, taking an early 4-3 lead. The Falcons tied it up at 6-6, and Hitchcock County took an 8-7 lead. The Falcons worked to extend their lead, 10-8, but the Warriors evened it up at 16-16 and forced Hitchcock County to call a timeout. The two teams traded points and tied things back up at 19-19. Arapahoe took the lead again at 21-20 and extended that lead to 23-20 and forced the Falcons to use a timeout. Out of the timeout, Hitchcock County pulled within one, 23-22, and forced Arapahoe to call a timeout and regroup. The Falcons evened it up at 23-23, out of the timeout, but Arapahoe was able to take set two, 25-23, and the match, 2-0.

In the next match, Arapahoe faced Dundy County Stratton. What a match. It was a block party for Dundy County Stratton. Arapahoe was serving extremely well. And, between the Spargo sisters and Emily Schack, I think that there are some bent floorboards on that court. Let's dive into the match.

In set one, Arapahoe scored first, taking the 1-0 lead. DCS took the lead, 4-3, but Arapahoe wasn't letting up as they tied it up at 6-6. The Tigers went on a run, stretching the lead to 14-10 and forcing Arapahoe to call a timeout. DCS kept their foot on the gas and extended their lead to 22-16, eventually taking set one 25-17.

In set two, DCS struck first and took the 2-0 lead. The Tigers were firing on all cylinders and extended their lead to 8-3, forcing the Warriors to call a timeout. Dundy County Stratton continued to serve well out of the timeout and extended their lead to 14-3. Don't count the Warriors out. They had major justle plays as Clara Hilker ran after a ball and nearly slid into us on the baseline. That sparked momentum and helped them chip away as they made the score 21-18. It was just too big a deficit to come out of for Arapahoe as the Tigers took set two, 25-20, and the match 2-0.

Unofficially, Arapahoe had five aces in the match. Emma Strand had six kills, and Cydney Carlson, Taytum Roskop, and Clara Hilker each had two kills.

Unofficially, DCS had five aces. Abi Spargo had eight kills, Emily Schack had seven kills, Clara Spargo had five kills, and Ava Lutz had three kills.

In the final match, Dundy County Stratton faced Hitchcock County. This match was back and forth. Hustle plays left and right, and lots of gritty play from both squads.

In set one, the score got knotted up at 1-1, and again at 4-4. The Falcons took the 6-4 lead and extended that to 9-6, forcing a Tiger timeout. Hitchcock County kept the pressure on DCS, extending the lead to 12-9. The Tigers pulled within two, 14-12, but the Falcons created some space again, leading 20-16, forcing another Tiger timeout. The Falcons took set one over the Tigers, 25-19.

In set two, Hitchcock County went up 2-0, but DCS pulled within one, 6-5. The Falcons forced the Tigers to call a timeout as they pulled away, 9-6, and eventually 13-8. There was a momentum shift as the Tigers started finding their setter and hitter connections, pulling within one, 14-13, and forcing a Falcon timeout. Hitchcock County extended their lead out of the timeout and forced DCS to call a timeout, 18-15. The Tigers evened the score at 23-23 and were able to take the 24-23 lead to eventually take the match, 25-23. DCS evened the match at 1-1 and forced a third and deciding set.

In the third set, it was Hitchcock County that struck first again as they took the 3-1 lead. DCS tied it up at 3-3 and turned on the jets, taking control of the set as they led 17-8. The Falcons weren't going to just roll over; they were very scrappy, picking up balls left and right, and found themselves down six, 17-11, and forced the Tigers to call a timeout. DCS regrouped and closed out the set, 25-19, and took the match 2-1.

Unofficially, for Hitchcock County, Madysen Carlson and Riley Hagan each had seven kills, Asia Homma had five kills, and Katelyn Cook had three kills.

Unofficially, for Dundy County Stratton, Abi Spargo had 15 kills, Emily Schack had 11 kills, and Clara Spargo had nine kills.
