Dundy County Stratton hosted a triangular on Tuesday evening and earned sweeps over both Wauneta-Palisade and Northern Valley while Wauneta-Palisade earned the sweep over Northern Valley.
In the first match, it was Dundy County Stratton and Northern Valley. It was all the Tigers in this match as they jumped out early and never let the Huskies back into the match.
In set one, DCS was strong from the service line and played solid volleyball. They were able to force many errors from Northern Valley both offensively and defensively. The Tigers jumped out to an 8-2 lead and were able to extend that to an 19-8 lead, and an eventual 25-15 win.
In set two it was a similar story. The Tigers claimed the early 7-2 lead and forced a timeout from Northern Valley early in the set at 11-3. The Huskies used their final timeout trailing 18-5. Dundy County Stratton went on to win this set 25-6.
For the Tigers, the team had 18 aces. Bianca Bernard had four aces, Ava Lutz had two aces, Emily Schack had four aces, Laynee Lutz had seven aces, and Abi Spargo had one ace. Clara Spargo had eight kills, Schack and A. Spargo each had five kills, Schack added two digs, and L. Lutz had 15 assists.
In match two of the night, it was Wauneta-Palisade and Northern Valley.
The Broncos jumped out in set one, 2-0. This was followed by three straight aces from McKenna Doetker to make the score 4-1. Northern Valley took a timeout at 11-1 but Wauneta-Palisade kept their foot on the gas to make the score 17-5. Wauneta-Palisade went on to win set one, 25-6.
Set two was a similar song and dance. The Broncos jumped out to the 4-0 lead and forced errors for the Huskies keeping them out of system. Wauneta-Palisade went on to win set two 25-10 and the match, 2-0.
Unofficially for Wauneta-Palisade, the team had six aces, Lilly Dinnel had 10 kills, Izzy Stehno had eight kills, and Doetker had three kills.
In the final match of the night, it was Dundy County Stratton and Wauneta-Palisade.
In set one, DCS got off to a solid start claiming the 5-3 lead. Both teams exchanged several errors and runs but the Tigers remained in the lead 12-8. Wauneta-Palisade was forced to take a timeout when DCS went ahead 18-16. The Broncos responded out of the timeout to even it up at 18-18 and went on to take their first lead in the set and 19-18. DCS was able to knot it up again at 20 before they went on a run to make Wauneta-Palisade use their final timeout at 23-20. Again, the Broncos responded out of the timeout making the score 24-23 forcing the Tigers to use a timeout. DCS came out of the timeout to win the set, 25-23.
Wauneta-Palisade started strong in set two claiming the early lead of 5-2. The Broncos extended their lead to 10-5 and forced a Tiger timeout. DCS came out of that timeout and was able to even the set at 14-14. The two teams went back and forth for a while before the Tigers were able to create a small lead at 20-17 and force a Bronco timeout. Dundy County Stratton went on to win set two 25-18 and the match, 2-0.
For Dundy County Stratton, C. Spargo had 12 kills and eight digs, Schack and L. Lutz each had two aces and two blocks, A. Spargo had six total blocks with five of them being solo blocks, and L. Lutz added 19 assists.
Unofficially for Wauneta-Palisade, the team had four aces, Stehno had five kills, Doetker had four kills, and Emma Acton had four kills.
Dundy County Stratton improved to 9-6 and will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Decatur Community, KS for a tournament.
Wauneta-Palisade is now 11-8 and will host SEM on Friday for a dual.
