Hi-Line Holds Off Wallace On Thursday Night

Hi-Line hosted Wallace for a dual in Eustis on Thursday night. The Bulls had to hold off a late surge from the Wildcats as it took all five sets to find a winner. It took extra points in nearly each set, but Hi-Line was able to secure the win over Wallace, 3-2.


In set one, Wallace struck first as they took a 3-1 lead over Hi-Line. The Bulls evened the score at 6-6 and eventually took the lead at 8-7. Hi-Line extended their lead to 11-9, but Wallace evened it up at 11-11. The Bulls extended that lead to 19-17 and eventually 23-21. The Wildcats were not going down without a fight, however, as they evened it up at 25-25 and forced a Hi-Line timeout. Wallace took set one, 26-24.


In set two, it was again Wallace who jumped out to the 3-1 lead over Hi-Line. They extended the lead to 6-2 before the Bulls tied it up at 9-9. Hi-Line took the lead at 11-10 and extended that lead to 19-14 and forced a Wildcat timeout. Hi-Line took set two, 25-17, and evened the match at one set apiece.



In set three, Hi-Line struck first and took the 4-2 lead, but Wallace took it over and had a 6-4 lead. It was knotted up at 12-12 and again at 15-15. Wallace took the lead 21-18 and forced the Bulls to use a timeout. Hi-Line evened it up at 22-22. The teams traded points, with the score tied at 24-24 and again at 26-26. However, the Bulls took set three with a score of 28-26, taking the lead, 2-1.


In set four, Wallace again took the 3-1 lead and extended that lead to 10-5. Hi-Line began to climb back, 14-11, but the Wildcats kept their foot on the gas, extending their lead to 20-13 and forcing Hi-Line to call a timeout. The Bulls had a surge at the end of the set and forced the Wildcats to use a timeout when they made the score 24-18. Wallace went on to take the set 25-28 and evened the match at 2-2.

In the fifth set, it was the first to 15. Hi-Line took the first point and jumped out to a 6-1 lead and forced Wallace to call a timeout. Regan Finley took the service line, and the Wildcats went on a run as they tied it up at 6-6. The teams exchanged points and tied it up again at 8-8, and Wallace took a 9-8 lead. Hi-Line took a 12-9 lead, and Wallace called a timeout. The Wildcats weren't going to go away and took the lead at 13-12, forcing Hi-Line to call a timeout. The two evened the score at 13-13. It was Hi-Line who clinched the match, taking set five 16-14 and the match 3-2.

Unofficially, for Wallace, the Wildcats tallied eight aces in the match. Reagan Finley had 16 kills, Maddison Gartrell had 12 kills, Kaley Sauser had nine kills, and Regan Martin had nine kills.


Unofficially for Hi-Line, the Bulls accumulated 16 aces in the match. Rilee Schutz had 15 kills, Lauryn Ruda had seven kills, and Piper Puls had five kills.

Wallace falls to 4-15 and is off until Tuesday when they host a triangular with Dundy County Stratton and South Platte.


Hi-Line is 8-12 and will host Sandhills Valley on Monday.
