Hitchcock County hit the road to Maxwell on Friday night for a gridiron battle. It was a beautiful evening, and the weather mirrored a first-round playoff game. Enough setting the stage, let's get to the action on the field.
Hitchcock County took down Maxwell by a final score of 66-12.
Hitchcock County took little time getting rolling as they scored in just a few plays on their opening drive, as Jack Baker rushed it in from three yards out. It was 6-0 with 11:04 to go in the first. Then, with 8:34 to go in the second quarter, Brody Hubl scored on an eight-yard run to push it to 14-0 after the two-point conversion.
Late in the opening quarter, Hubl scored again, this time from four yards away. The two-point conversion was good, and it was 22-0.
That score carried over into the second period.
In the early stages of the second quarter, Jack Baker of the Falcons threw a dime to Grady Erickson from 19 yards away. The two-point conversion was good, and it was 30-0 with 10:35 to go in the first half.

Maxwell began to battle back. On the next possession, quarterback Jesse Reyes had a 50-yard touchdown run to make it 30-6 with 9:48 in the second. Maxwell used that momentum and kicked an onside kick, recovered it, and went back on offense.
The Wildcats scored shortly after as Jesse Reyes scored from three yards out. It was 30-12 at that point.
Hitchcock County countered with scores of its own before the end of the half. Hubl scored his third touchdown from 16 yards out, two-point conversion good, and then Jayce Hauxwell caught a 16-yard pass to push the lead to 44-12, and that was the score heading to the intermission.
In the third quarter, it took some time to get a score on the board, but when it happened, it was electric. Maxwell's ball carrier took the rock to the left side, and Hitchcock County's Adam Kisker met the runner with good contact, then he just ripped the ball away, and ran it in from approximately 25 yards away with 5:32 to go in the third. It was 52-12 after the two-point conversion.
Later in the quarter, Isaac Vrbas scored from seven yards away. The two-point conversion was good, and the Falcons led 60-12.
Hitchcock County scored one more time, Tyson Carlson from a yard out early in the fourth quarter to push the lead to 66-12.
We chatted with Jayce Hauxwell and Grady Erickson after the game.
