What a game. I have had the opportunity to cover high school football in some fashion for 11 seasons now. And sometimes, there are games that get imprinted on your mind. Thursday evening's battle between Cambridge and Hitchcock County was one of those games that will be remembered.
The Falcons made the trip to Cambridge for a D2-8 District battle. It was an excellent game, as previously stated, and it was Hitchcock County winning in overtime, 20-14.
It was a game that, for a while, was really tough sledding, neither team could get an edge. It was 0-0 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, it continued to be a hard-fought game. Hitchcock County got on the board right before the half on a 16-yard pass from Jack Baker to Jaret Neben. The two-point conversion was good, and it was 8-0, and that's what the score was going into the break.

Out of the half, Cambridge put together an excellent drive that took over four minutes, as Micah Gerlach found Brady Ahlemeyer on a 28-yard pass. The two-point conversion was good.
Late in the third, Hitchcock County reclaimed the lead on a one-yard run from Baker, and it was 14-8 with 34 seconds remaining in the third. Cambridge got a bit stop in the fourth quarter late, and they took the ball on their own 17.
Cambridge put together a methodical drive, unofficially a 16-play drive, capped off by a one-yard touchdown by Gerlach. It was 14-14, and Hitchcock County elected to knee it and go to overtime.
Cambridge had some good looks and opportunities to score as they had the ball first, but they couldn't get it across the goal line.
Hitchcock County scored in three plays as Neben punched it in from a yard away to make it 20-14.
