Maywood-Hayes Center Sweeps Games Against Paxton

On Friday, January 9th, Maywood-Hayes Center played host to Paxton in Hayes Center for a girls and boys basketball double-header.
In the girls game, MHC won 64-43
In the opening four minutes of the game, Maywood-Hayes Center started on a 14-0 run before Paxton got on the board. Paxton settled down a little bit in the first quarter, and for the remainder of the period, they were only outscored by one point. Maywood-Hayes Center led 21-6 heading to the second.

In the second quarter, Paxton started out on a 6-2 run. The Wolves, though, were able to stop the run and go on one of their own, leading 37-15 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the offense continued as teams traded buckets. Maywood-Hayes Center led 54 to 32 heading to the final stanza.
Just under five minutes to go in the game, Paxton got within 13, 56-43.
MHC stopped the comeback and secured the victory, 64-43.
Paxton was led by Ella Fote with 19 points, and Jakcee Mitchell had 14. Paxton is now 7-4 and will play Creek Valley at home on Thursday, January 15th.
MHC was led by Caylie Softley's 24 points. Karissa Stengel had 13, and Haylie Gustafson and Ava Messersmith each had 10.
MHC has won eight in a row, they are 12-1, and will face Maxwell at home on Tuesday, the 13th.

In the boys game, MHC won a close game, 51-44.
In the first quarter, the teams traded buckets, and they were tied up at 10.
The scoring remained low in the second quarter, and it appeared we were going to have a rock fight on our hands. The Wolves led 21-17 at the intermission.

The second half yielded more offense. In the third quarter, the Wolves led 28-20. But, Paxton got it within 28-27. MHC had a lead of 34-29 going to the fourth.

Paxton kept things close late in the game, down by five with about two minutes to go, 44-39, and 47-42 with about 40 seconds to go. The Wolves, though, held off the Tigers and won 51-44.

Keenan Richards had 24 points to lead MHC. Kade Broz added 12. For MHC, they are 10-2 and will play Maxwell at home on Tuesday, January 13th.
Maddex McConnell had 16 points, and Tristen Hebblethwaite had 13. Paxton is now 6-5 and will host Creek Valley on Thursday, January 15th.
