Medicine Valley and Wauneta-Palisade Split Games on Thursday Night

Wauneta-Palisade hosted Medicine Valley on Thursday night for a girls and boys doubleheader. The two squads split games with Wauneta-Palisade taking the girls game and Medicine Valley taking the boys game.

First, for the girls matchup.


Medicine Valley struck first, but Wauneta-Palisade responded quickly to regain the lead and held a 5-1 lead over the Raiders until the 4:11 mark in the first quarter when Oakley Stout hit a pair of free throws to make the score 5-3. Medicine Valley took the 6-5 lead at the 3:00 mark and then traded baskets until the Broncos took a 14-9 lead with 1:00 remaining. The Raiders crashed the offensive boards really hard in this quarter. After the first quarter, Wauneta-Palisade led Medicine Valley, 17-11.


The second quarter started a little slower, as the first basket came from the Broncos at the 6:45 mark to make the score 19-11, forcing Medicine Valley to call a timeout. Wauneta-Palisade was able to stretch their lead to 10, 23-13, by the 4:40 mark in the second quarter. When the Broncos stretched the lead to 27-13, the Raiders called a timeout to regroup with 3:37 left in the half. Medicine Valley responded with a basket out of the timeout, but Wauneta-Palisade responded with a couple of baskets of their own. The two then traded baskets until the end of the first half as Wauneta-Palisade had the 31-19 lead. During that second quarter, the Broncos rebounded hard on the offensive glass and hit some outside shots.

In the 3rd quarter, the scoring slowed somewhat, but the hustle plays increased. Both teams moved the ball well and hustled. Medicine Valley started to creep back into the game, forcing Wauneta-Palisade to call a timeout with 4:30 remaining and the score at 39-23. The Broncos led 44-26 after three quarters.


In the final quarter, Wauneta-Palisade hit outside shots and created a little separation. With 4:38 left in the game, Medicine Valley called a timeout with the Broncos leading 52-30. Wauneta-Palisade then called a timeout with 3:29 left in the game, and the score was the same. The Broncos defeated the Raiders, 54-34.



For Medicine Valley, Oakley Stout had 15 points, and Delany Evans had six points.


For Wauneta-Palisade, Kamryn Fanning had 19 points, and Cheynne Parrish had 11 points.


The Raiders are now 3-15 and will host Bertrand on Friday.


The Broncos are now 11-8 and will travel to Sutherland on Friday.

Now for the boys game.


Medicine Valley took an early 5-0 lead until about the 6:30 mark when the Broncos hit a three-pointer. The lead grew to 9-3, and Wauneta-Palisade called a timeout with 5:27 left in the first. The lead continued to grow for Medicine Valley, which led 24-7 after the first quarter.


In the second quarter, the Raiders continued to crash the boards and ran their transition offense to keep increasing their lead. At the 3:30 mark, Medicine Valley increased the lead to 33-13. Towards the end of the quarter, the Broncos started to find some rhythm on offense, but the Raiders were still rolling too. Medicine Valley had the halftime lead, 35-19.

In the third quarter, the Broncos earned the first bucket and went on a 4-0 run in the first 90 seconds before the Raiders answered. Wauneta-Palisade kept the pressure on and forced Medicine Valley to use a timeout with 4:33 left in the third quarter with a 42-26 lead. Medicine Valley pushed its lead to 48-26 and forced Wauneta-Palisade to call a timeout with 2:46 left in the quarter. The Raiders ended the quarter with a 55-28 lead.


In the final stanza, Medicine Valley continued to roll as they extended their lead to 63-30 at the 6:07 mark before the Broncos had an answer. Scoring then slowed for Medicine Valley, while Wauneta-Palisade found some success. Medicine Valley defeated the Broncos, 70-40.



For Wauneta-Palisade, Wyatt Hilbert had 12 points, and Aaden Wheeler had eight points.


For Medicine Valley, Mason Roblee had 25 points, Payton Newcomb had 10 points, Lucas Einspahr had 10 points, and Ethan Brown had 10 points.


The Raiders are now 11-7 and will host Bertrand on Friday.


The Broncos are now 1-17 and will travel to Sutherland on Friday.
