3rd Place Matches

At 106 pounds, Bryton Stalder of Southern Valley defeated Dillon Hebbert of Hyannis via fall at 2:51 to place 3rd. He finished the season with a record of 37-6.

We caught up with Bryton after his 3rd-place match to talk about how it feels to medal and what the state experience has been like for him. "It feels amazing. All year, my goal has been to be in the top two at districts and the top four at state. I am so glad that I got them; it has been what I have been pushing for. It has been so fun here... The atmosphere has been awesome," said Stalder.

At 165 pounds, it was a familiar matchup as Cambridge's Colton Perks faced Hitchcock County's Dylan Kollmorgan. Perks took 3rd place via fall in 1:24, and Kollmorgan took 4th place. Kollmorgan finished his season with a record of 48-14, and Perks finished with a record of 50-4.

We were able to talk to Colton after his match, and he just talked about how much his coaches have meant to him throughout his high school career. "They have meant a lot. They have always been there for us, and I would not be here at state without them, so big credit to them," said Perks.

Championship Matches

At 144 pounds, it was a battle of undefeateds and a rematch. Briggs Hill, a junior witha 51-0 record, of Arapahoe, faced Corbin Hoefer, a senior with a 53-0 record, of Neligh-Oakdale. This was a rematch from last year's Class D 138-pound state championship match in which Hoefer defeated Hill. It was a close match until late in the third period, when Hoefer was able to create some space. Hill lost to Hoefer by an 8-2 decision and finished his season with a record of 51-1. Another outstanding season for Hill.

At 165 pounds, Hayden Lans of Southern Valley, a junior with a record of 38-6, faced William Pokorny of Central Valley, a sophomore with a record of 43-1, who was the state runner-up last year at 157 pounds in Class D. Pokorny attacked quickly and forced Lans to fight for position. Pokorny was able to create some separation and pulled away to defeat Lans by major decision, 14-2. Lans finished the season with a record of 38-7 and what a year to make it to a title match.

At 190 pounds, Trevor Manka, a senior with a record of 43-3, of Maxwell, faced Elijah Fjell, a senior with a record of 49-4, of Shelby-Rising City. Fjell was the Class D 215-pound state champion last year. It was a battle through the first period as it was scoreless. In the second period, Fjell found his groove and defeated Manka via pin at 3:40. Manka ended his season with a record of 43-4.

We were able to talk to Trevor after his championship match about what it means to return to state wrestling again this year, and the conversations he has with Head Coach Seth Crane. "So, sophomore year, it was inspiring. It was something I looked forward to, and there was a conversation between Seth and me. We were even talking about it today.

When we were watching the finals, I said, Seth, by senior year, I will be down there. And I will be giving it my all... And then today I did what I said I was going to do two years ago," said Manka.
