Tigers Win Take Home Victories on Friday Against Cambridge

On Friday evening, Cambridge hosted Dundy County Stratton in the early stages of the basketball season. DCS came away with a sweep, winning both the girls and boys games.


In the girls matchup, the Tigers won by a final of 40-25. In the opening period, the Tigers took a narrow lead, 14-10. In the second quarter, offense was tougher to come by for both squads as Cambridge scored two points and DCS scored seven. It was 21-12 at halftime.

In the third quarter, DCS outscored Cambridge 10-9 to increase the lead to 31-21 heading to the final stanza. DCS was able to pull away in the final quarter by outscoring the Trojans 9-4 and get the victory. In this game, the Tigers used a lot of ball-pressure and their athleticism to force turnovers and get out and run. Cambridge did have some great opportunities, and also had a nice game defensively.

For Cambridge, Mallory Springer scored eight, Aspen Webb had seven, Brooklyn Holtze had six, and Joslyn Holtze added four.


For DCS, Clara Spargo scored 15, Abi Spargo had 11, and Ava Lutz had 10.

Cambridge is now 1-1 and will play at home versus Southern Valley on Tuesday. DCS is 1-0 and will play versus Wauneta-Palisade on Tuesday in the Cattle Trail Tournament.

In the boys game, it was Dundy County Stratton that won in an up-tempo battle, 77-61. In the first quarter, DCS led 21-9 late in the period, but with about 30 seconds to go, Cambridge hit back-to-back threes and cut it to 21-15 heading to the second.



In the second quarter, the offensive activity continued to ramp up, as both teams scored 18 points and the Tigers led 39-33 at halftime.

In the third quarter, both teams were firing on all cylinders. Cambridge cut the deficit to one, 50-49, about halfway through the period. After that, DCS began to pull away. The Tigers led 59-53 heading to the fourth.


In the final quarter, Cambridge couldn't find the bottom of the net, while DCS had its offense and defense working at a high level and outscored Cambridge 18-8.

Ethan Latta and August Shaw each had 25 points in the game. Dante Horner added 14 as well. DCS moves to 1-0 this year and will face Wauneta-Palisade on Tuesday in the Cattle Trail Tournament.

For Cambridge, they are now 1-1 and will host Southern Valley on Tuesday. Hodge Raburn scored 23 points, and Brady Ahlemeyer had 14 in the loss to DCS.
