Day One of the RPAC Girls Basketball Tournament is in the Books

On this cold, cold January 23rd, the RPAC Girls Basketball Tournament began. On the West Side, games were hosted at Wauneta-Palisade. For the East, Cambridge was the host site.
Let’s dive into the results.

In the first game on the West side, it was #1-seeded Dundy County Stratton versus #8-seeded Wallace. DCS won 64-17
The Tigers were dominant, leading 52-7 at halftime. DCS was led by 18 points from Abi Spargo. For Wallace, Elliana Robertson had 8 points for the Wildcats.
Paxton will host the next round on Monday for the west. #1 DCS advances and will take on #4 Wauneta-Palisade at 6:00 P.M. CT. #8 Wallace will face #6 Hitchcock County at 3:00 P.M. CT.

The Cardinals also started fast, leading 56-10 at halftime. The Cardinals kept rolling throughout the game to get the victory.
For Medicine Valley, they were led by Oakley Stout with 8 points. Alma was led by 20 points from Kamryn Scott, 13 from Kamri Neal, Vayden Epp had 11, and Abbie Pool had 10.
Southern Valley will host the East on Monday. #1 Alma advances and will face #4 Southwest at 6:00 P.M. CT. #8 Medicine Valley will face #5 Southern Valley at 3:00 P.M. CT.

In the second game on the West side, it was the #5-seeded Hitchcock County against the #4-seeded Wauneta-Palisade. Wauneta-Palisade won 58-54. We had a feeling this one could be a great game, and at halftime it was close, 30-28 in favor of Hitchcock County.
This game continued to be a back-and-forth battle. Kaia Applegarth had some big buckets late for the Broncos.
With 15 seconds to go, Cheyenne Parrish had a steal and a layup to put the Broncos up 58-54. Parrish had 17 points, Molly Yearous had 11 points, and Kamryn Fanning had 16.
For Hitchcock County, Raegan Hagan had 16 points, Asia Homma had 9, and Madysen Carlson had 12.
#4 Wauneta-Palisade will face #1 Dundy County Stratton at 6:00 P.M. CT. #6 Hitchcock County will face #8 Wallace at 3:00 P.M. CT.

On the East side, the #4-seeded Southwest Roughriders faced the #5-seeded Southern Valley Eagles. The Roughriders won 41-24. Southwest built a big lead in this one, up 22-6 at halftime.
Aspen Billeter had a big game with 25 points for Southwest.
For Southern Valley, Emercen Lovitt and Tori Bose each scored 8.
#4 Southwest will face #1 Alma at 6:00 P.M. CT. #5 Southern Valley will face #8 Medicine Valley at 3:00 P.M. CT.

Now for the third matchups of the day. On the West, it was #3-seeded Paxton versus #6-seeded Sutherland. Paxton won 61-37. It was an 11-6 game in favor of Paxton after the first quarter. The Tigers opened things up in the second quarter, leading 32-12 at the intermission.
Phoenix Brown had 17 points in the game to lead Sutherland. Maleah Vasquez had 10 points.
For Paxton, Ella Fote had 20 points, Jakcee Mitchell had 15, and Jaleigh Hanson had 10.
#3 Paxton will face #2 Maywood-Hayes Center at 7:30 P.M. CT. #6 Sutherland will face #7 Maxwell at 4:30 P.M. CT.

On the East side, it was #3-seeded Cambridge versus #6-seeded Bertrand. This game was close at the start, and Cambridge led 26-24 at halftime. Cambridge, though, tightened up the defense and pulled away for the win, 54-30.
For Cambridge, Mallory Springer had 20 points, and Brooklyn Holtze had 16 points.
For Bertrand, Livia Philips had 12.
#3 Cambridge will face #2 Arapahoe at 7:30 P.M. CT. #6 Bertrand will face #7 Hi-Line at 4:30 P.M. CT.
Now for the final games of the night.

MHC led 33-18 at halftime. After the half, Maxwell went on a run, and it was 37-30 with 4:36 to go in the third quarter. Early in the fourth, MHC got the lead back up to 10, 45-35.
MHC defeated Maxwell 61-45. Karissa Stengel led the Wolves with 19, and Caylie Softley had 16 points. For Maxwell, Kristyn Cheek had 13 points, and Emory Christensen had nine points.
#2 Maywood-Hayes Center will face #3 Paxton at 7:30 P.M. CT. #7 Maxwell will face #6 Sutherland at 4:30 P.M. CT.

For the East side, #2 seed Arapahoe played against #7 seed Hi-Line. The Warriors won 72-24. Arapahoe was able to take a commanding lead in the first half, 42-10 and never look back.
Olivia Wall led the scoring for Hi-Line with 10 points.
For Arapahoe, Suttyn Shafer had 19 points, Clara Hilker had 18 points, Sawyer Shafer and Ryleigh Tidyman each had 11.
#2 Arapahoe will face #3 Cambridge at 7:30 P.M. CT. #7 Hi-Line will face #6 Bertrand at 4:30 P.M. CT.
