Dundy County Stratton Survives Against Loomis to Advance to Friday's D2 Semifinal

On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the NSAA Girls State Basketball Tournament began in Lincoln. In Class D2, #1 Dundy County Stratton played #8 Loomis at Pinnacle Bank Arena. It was a tough, hard-fought game, and DCS defeated the Wolves 37-36.

To begin the game, Loomis started on a little 4-0 run. Loomis maintained the lead heading to the second quarter, 11-9. Loomis continued to put pressure on the Tigers and knocked down a few shots to extend the lead. They led 22-14 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Tigers' scoring picked up. But Loomis found success on offense, too. The Wolves kept their lead, 31-26, heading to the final period. In the fourth quarter, DCS was able to apply a little pressure. Kimberly Escobar made a ton of winning plays by getting steals and throwing good passes. The Tigers tied it up at 33-33 with 5:21 left in the game with a layup from Abi Spargo.

DCS then took its first lead of the game at the 4:06 mark with a jumper from Abi Spargo. Camry Anderson hit a three-pointer with about 2:20 to go in the game to make it 36-35 in favor of Loomis. This was her first bucket of the game. Emily Schack hit a long two-pointer with about 40 seconds to go in the game to give the Tigers a one-point lead, 37-36. With 32.5 seconds left to go in the game, Loomis took a timeout. With 1.0 to go, DCS took a timeout on a dead ball to get organized on defense. The Tigers secured a 37-36 win to advance to the D2 semifinals.

Loomis was led by Sophia Schemper with 16 points and five rebounds; Addison Perry had 11 points; and Ella Ellsworth had 11 rebounds.
Dundy County Stratton was led by Emily Schack with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals; Abi Spargo had 12 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and three blocks; and Kimberly Escobar had four steals.

The Wolves finish their season with a record of 14-12.
DCS improves to 26-1 and will face #5 seed Archangels Catholic on Friday morning at 9:00 A.M. CT at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
