Roughriders Sweep Broncos on Tuesday Night

It was a wild, stormy evening in Red Willow County, but that didn't stop Southwest from hosting Wauneta-Palisade on Tuesday night. Southwest was able to come away with the 3-0 sweep. Check out the blog.

In set one, Wauneta-Palisade jumped out early with a 5-1 lead, but Southwest began to chip away at the lead and eventually tied it up at 9-9. The Roughriders took their first lead of the set at 11-10 and extended it to 14-10, forcing a Bronco timeout. Southwest kept pushing out of the timeout and extended their lead to 17-13 and went on to win the set 25-17 and take the 1-0 lead.



In set two, it was Wauneta-Palisade again who struck first. Maggie Dewester was at the service line and served up four straight aces to start the match, 4-0. The Broncos kept the pressure on Southwest as they extended their lead out to 12-3. The Roughriders started to claw back into the set as they closed the gap to 14-12 and forced the Broncos to call a timeout. Southwest tied it up at 14-14 out of the timeout, and the teams traded points. It was tied at 20-20, but Southwest took a 22-20 lead and went on to win the set, 25-21, and take a 2-0 lead.

Set three had Southwest jumping out first and taking the 8-4 lead. Wauneta-Palisade called a timeout, trailing 12-5. The Broncos pulled it within four, 17-13, but Southwest was able to pull away, forcing Wauneta-Palisade to use a timeout, 21-14. Southwest went on to take set three, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.

Unofficially, for Wauneta-Palisade, they had nine aces in the match, with Dewester having five of those aces. Emma Acton had seven kills, McKenna Doetker had five kills, Lilly Dinnel had five kills, Cheyenne Parrish and Kaia Applegarth each had two kills, and Kamryn Fanning had one kill.


Unofficially for Southwest, Krya Nelms had 21 kills, Anikka Nelms had 19 kills, and Aspen Billeter had five kills.

Wauneta-Palisade is now 8-4 and will return to action on Thursday when they host Maywood-Hayes Center.


Southwest is now 10-0 and will play in the McCook tournament on Saturday.
