Round One RPAC Boys Basketball Tournament is Complete

It was an action-packed first day in the RPAC tournament. Wauneta-Palisade hosted the West, and Cambridge hosted the East.

The Boys Tournament will resume on Tuesday, January 27th, with Southern Valley as the host site for the East and Paxton as the host site for the West.
In the first game of the day on the West, #1 Maywood-Hayes Center faced #8 Wauneta-Palisade. The Wolves got rolling early, taking a 19-1 lead after the first quarter. Wauneta-Palisade was able to get the ball in the basket in the second quarter to make the score 41-14 at halftime. MHC defeated the Broncos, 78-41.
For Maywood-Hayes Center, Charlie Callis had 24, and Keenan Richards had 17 points.
For Wauntea-Palisade, Nate Hiett had 15 points.
#1 Maywood-Hayes Center will advance to take on #5 Hitchcock County at 6:00 P.M. CT. #8 Wauneta-Palisade will take on #4 Paxton at 3:00 P.M. CT.

In the first game on the East, #1 Alma faced #8 Arapahoe. Alma jumped out early, taking the 39-0 lead at the half. The Cardinals defeated Arapahoe 64-6.
For Alma, Tucker Biskup had 12 points, and Isaiah Neal and Grady Faimon each had 11 points. For Arapahoe, AJ Roush had three points.
#1 Alma advances to face #5 Hi-Line at 6:00 P.M. CT. #8 Arapahoe will face #4 Medicine Valley at 3:00 P.M. CT.

In the second game on the West, #4 Paxton faced #5 Hitchcock County. Hitchcock County led 27-16 at the half and went on to defeat the Tigers, 52-33.
For Hitchcock County, Jayce Hauxwell had 15 points, and Adam Kisker added 13 points.
For Paxton, Maddox McConnell had 14 points, and Tristan Hebblethwaite added 11 points.
The Falcons will face #1 Maywood-Hayes Center at 6:00 P.M. CT. #4 Paxton will face #8 Wauneta-Palisade at 3:00 P.M. CT.

In the second game on the East, #4 Medicine Valley battled #5 Hi-Line. And a battle it was. Medicine Valley led the Bulls by one at the half, 24-23. Hi-Line got its offense rolling in the second half and came back to defeat the Raiders, 51-47.
For Hi-Line, Brody Diefenbaugh had 14 points, Cooper Knackstedt had 13 points, and Kane Cochrane added 11 points. For Medicine Valley, Lucas Einspahr had 15 points, Ethan Brown had 12 points, and Alex Einspahr had 11 points.
#5 Hi-Line will face #1 Alma at 6:00 P.M. CT. #4 Medicine Valley will face #8 Arapahoe at 3:00 P.M. CT.

In the third game on the West, #3 Wallace faced #6 Sutherland. The Wildcats jumped out early and never looked back, defeating the Sailors, 61-20.
For Sutherland Jackson Saner had nine points. Wallace was paced by 26 points from Max Hanson. Micah Garrison had eight.
#3 Wallace advances and will face #2 seed Dundy County Stratton at 7:30 P.M. CT. #6 Sutherland will play #7 seeded Maxwell at 4:30 P.M. CT.

On the East, #3 Cambridge battled #6 Southwest. This game was also a close one. It was tied at 18 after the first quarter, and Cambridge went to the half with a 33-28 lead. After three quarters, Cambridge led 52-47. The Trojans created a little separation in the fourth, but the Roughriders surged to pull within two points with under 10 seconds left. Houston Billeter got two great looks from three before time expired, but missed both. Cambridge won, 68-66.
For Cambridge, Brady Ahlemeyer had 21 points, Hodge Raburn had 20 points, Maverick Webb had 13 points, and Braydon Miller had 10 points. For Southwest, Houston Billeter had 36 points, and Brody Hammond had 11 points.
#3 Cambridge advances and will face #2 seeded Bertrand at 7:30 P.M. CT. #6 Southwest will face #7 seed Southern Valley at 4:30 P.M. CT.

In our final games of the night, both were competitive matchups.
On the West side it was #2 seeded Dundy County Stratton versus #7 seeded Maxwell. This game was close throughout as the Tigers led 22-19 at halftime. The final score ended up being 50-43.
For the Tigers, they were led by Ethan Latta with 16 points, and August Shaw had 14. Maxwell was paced by Jesse Reyes with 21 points and Jagger Kleewein had 12. #2 DCS advances to play #3 seed Wallace at 7:30 P.M. CT. #7 Maxwell will play #6 seed Sutherland at 4:30 P.M. CT.

For the East side, it was #2 seed Bertrand against #7 seed Southern Valley. Bertrand won by a final of 61-53. The Vikings looked like they were going to run away with it in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 16 halfway through the period. But the Eagles hung around and kept it close. Bertrand, though, closed out the game.
Houston Hunt had 16 for Southern Valley, Hunter Lans had 13, and Isaac Hamilton had 20. Bertrand was led by 20 points by Thunder Nelson, Hunter Nelson had 18, and Scottie Bieker had 17.
#2 seed Bertrand will play #3 seed Cambridge at 7:30 P.M. CT. #7 seed Southern Valley will play #6 seeded Southwest at 4:30 P.M. CT.
