RPAC Boys Basketball Results as of 12/21

It was another action-packed week of hoops for RPAC Boys Basketball Teams. Let's dive into the results


Alma


The Cardinals had two games last week and went 1-1 in those matchups. First, they hosted Southwest and won by a final score of 73-39. Alma led 17-14 after the first quarter, and then they began to pull away from there. For Alma, Zavier Mitchell was effective and efficient, 9-12 from the field with 22 points and nine boards. Tucker Biskup had 13 points and six assists. Grady Faimon added 12.


Alma then faced a tough Cozad team and lost, 65-34. The Cardinals received their first test of the season and couldn't keep up with the Haymakers. Mitchell scored eight points for Alma, and Faimon had seven. Cozad controlled the glass, 30 rebounds to Alma's 16.


Alma is 5-1 and will play Medicine Valley on Monday and Holdrege on Tuesday.


Arapahoe


The Warriors had another full week, three games to be exact, from 12/16-12/19. First, they faced Norther Valley, KS, and lost, 72-22. As a team, Arapahoe struggled to knock down shots, going 16% from the field. Aiden Roush scored 11 points. Hudson Sich had seven points and seven rebounds.


Arapahoe then faced Wilcox-Hildreth on the road last Thursday. Arapahoe battled again, but fell in the game, 74-36. Arapahoe shot the ball better, at a 30% clip. Roush had 19 points to lead Arapahoe.


In the Warriors' final game of the week, they faced Southwest, another RPAC foe, on Friday. Arapahoe dropped this game, 65-36. The teams were tied up 12-12 after the first quarter, but a 29-point second period for Southwest created the separation. Hayden Sich had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. They had 35 turnovers in the game.


Arapahoe is 0-7 and will face Blue Hill in the first round of the Bob Braithwait Holiday Tournament in Arapahoe on December 29th.

Bertrand


The Vikings had two games last week and found success, going 2-0. First, they faced rival Hi-Line on Tuesday, the 16th, and won by a final of 62-38. Scottie Bieker kept his strong play rolling with 19 points on 8-12 shooting and 10 rebounds. Thunder Nelson scored 18 points and had eight assists and eight steals.


Bertrand then followed that up with a big win against Blue Hill on the 20th, 74-47. The Vikings had four players in double figures as Thunder Nelson scored 23, Hunter Nelson had 16, Marshall Steinbrink scored 10, and Scottie Bieker had 17. Bieker again had 10 rebounds.


Bertrand is 5-2 and will face Arcadia/Loup City at the Elm Creek Holiday Tournament on December 29th.


Cambridge


The Trojans had one game last week, and it was against a very tough team, Cozad. Cambridge dropped the game by a final score of 74-21. Cambridge struggled to get much going against the Haymakers.


Cambridge is off until December 29th, when it plays Loomis at the Loomis Holiday Tournament.


Dundy County Stratton


The Tigers keep on winning. They had two games last week and grabbed victories in both of them. First, they played Wauneta-Palisade and won, 57-17. DCS took a 21-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Ethan Latta had 12 points, and August Shaw added 10.


The Tigers then faced Perkins County and won 62-55. It was 54-38 heading to the final quarter. Perkins County scored 17 points in the final quarter to DCS's eight to make it closer. For DCS, Latta scored 22 points, Shaw had 11, and Blaine Aldridge added 11 points.


DCS is now 6-0 and will be off until they face Chase County on January 6th.



Hitchcock County


The Falcons got back on track this past week with two games and won both of them. First, they played Medicine Valley, which was an RPAC Rundown Featured Matchup. You can read the full article here. Hitchcock County won, 73-44.


The Falcons then faced Rawlins County on Friday, the 19th, and won 71-53. Jayce Hauxwell and Adam Kisker were dynamic again. Hauxwell had 31 points and 19 rebounds, and Kisker had 30 points and 17 rebounds.


Hitchcock County is now 3-3 and will face Brady on January 2nd.

Hi-Line


The Bulls of Hi-Line played in a trio of games this past week and went 2-1. First, they faced rival Bertrand on Tuesday, the 16th, and lost by a final score of 62-38. Brody Diefenbaugh and Kane Chochrane each scored nine points. Knocking down shots was difficult for Hi-Line, as they were 13-for-50 from the field.


Hi-Line bounced back with a 65-25 win over Franklin on Thursday, the 18th. On Friday, the Bulls closed out the week with a 55-43 win over Gibbon.


H-Line is 5-2 and will play Lawerence-Nelson on the road on December 30th.


Maywood-Hayes Center


Maywood-Hayes Center had a couple of games last week and won both of them. First, they took down Sutherland on Tuesday, 61-39. That was an RPAC Rundown Featured Matchup, and you can read the full article here.


The Wolves then faced Brady on Thursday, the 18th, and won 65-28. Charlie Callis scored 19 points, Keenan Richards had 13, and Oliver Anders had 10 rebounds.


Maywood Hayes-Center is now 6-1 and will play in the Paxton Pre-Holiday Tournament and begin with Garden County on Monday. Also playing in the Tournament is Paxton and Hyannis.


Maxwell


Maxwell played two games last week and lost both. First, on Tuesday the 16th, they went to Loomis and lost by a final of 73-41. Tayton Phillips had 12 points, and Jesse Reyes totaled 13.


Maxwell then faced Paxton and lost a close one, 51-50. When evaluating this game, we recognized it had the potential to be an excellent matchup. Paxton used a 17-9 fourth quarter to secure the win. Maxwell had four players in double figures as Phillips had 12, Reyes had 11, Owen Pagel had 10, and Jagger Kleewein had 13.


Maxwell will host their Booster Club Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, the 22nd and 23rd. First, they will face Brady on Monday.

Medicine Valley


Medicine Valley played a pair of games last week and went 1-1. First, they played Hitchcock County last Thursday, which was an RPAC Rundown Featured Matchup. You can read the full article here. Hitchcock County won, 73-44.


The Raiders bounced back on Friday against South Loup, winning 65-38. Medicine Valley had four players who scored in double-figures as Alex Einspahr had 12, Ethan Brown had 16, Lucas Einspahr had 14, and Mason Roblee had 19. Brown had 10 rebounds, too.


Medicine Valley is a team to keep watching; they have a lot of ability on the court to score. They are now 5-2 and will play Alma on Monday.



Paxton


Last week, Paxton had two games, and both were nail-biters. On Tuesday, the 16th, they fell to Perkins County, 53-50. Paxton led heading to the final period, 42-38. But the Plainsmen scored 15 points to Paxton's eight to get the win. Maddex McConnell had 20 points to lead Paxton, and Tristen Hebblethwaite had 14.


Paxton, though, bounced back and beat Maxwell in a close game, 51-50. When evaluating this game, we recognized it had the potential to be an excellent matchup. Paxton used a 17-9 fourth quarter to secure the win. Hebblethwaite had 21 points and shot the ball well, 8-14, McConnell had 12 points too.


Paxton is now 3-3 and will face Hyannis on Monday in the first round of the Paxton Pre-Holiday Tournament. Maywood-Hayes Center and Garden County are in the tournament, too.

Southern Valley


Southern Valley had a full week with three games. They went 1-2 in the trio of matchups. First, against Norton, they played well but lost 71-59. The Eagles led at halftime, 31-27. But a 44-28 second half in favor of Norton.


Southern Valley had a nice scoring output from a trio of players, as Houston Hunt had 16 points, including four three-pointers. Hunter Lans had 17 points on 7-8 shooting, and Isaac Hamilton had 18 points.


Southwest


The Southwest Roughriders had two games last week and they were able to split the matchups. First, they played Alma on Tuesday the 16th, and lost, 73-39. Alma led 17-14 after the first quarter, and then they began to pull away from there. Houston Billeter had 24 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. As a team, Southwest was 15-40 from the field.


Southwest was able to rebound as a team, beating Arapahoe on Friday, the 19th. The final in this one was 65-36. The teams were tied up 12-12 after the first quarter, but a 29-point second period for Southwest created the separation. Billeter scored 27 points on 11-22 shooting, Jacob Barber had 18 points, and Deric Kelly had 10 rebounds.


Southwest is 2-5 and will play Franklin on January 2nd.


Sutherland


The Sailors had a full week of games and won one of the three games they played in. They began with a loss to Maywood-Hayes Center, 61-39. That was an RPAC Rundown Featured Matchup, and you can read the full article here.


Sutherland faced Wallace next on Thursday and lost, 49-26. The Sailors struggled to get the offense going, shooting 10-37 from the field. They also had 20 turnovers.


The Sailors bounced back and played Elba on Saturday. Sutherland won by a final of 53-41. Mason Mortimer had 19 points for Sutherland, another effective scoring game for him, and Jackson Saner had 10 points, which was the second most that night. Easton Smith grabbed 10 rebounds. The Sailors did have some turnover issues with 24, but they were able to find a way to win.


Sutherland is 3-3 and will face Potter-Dix on January 2nd.

Wallace


Wallace had a pair of games and won them both last week. They have a four-game winning streak at this point. First, they beat Sutherland 49-26. Colt Franklin had 13 points and eight boards, and then Wyatt Robertson had 12 points. Bradley Hanson was key on the rebounding effort too, with 12 rebounds. An impressive win for Wallace because Sutherland is a much-improved squad this season.


Wallace then beat Potter-Dix in a close game, 43-38. The teams were tied at 30-30 heading to the final period, but Wallace scored 13 to secure the win while holding Potter-Dix to eight.


Frankling had 15 points, and Max Hanson had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Good effort again from the Wildcats. Wallace is 5-1 and will play in the Loomis Holiday Tournament on December 29th.


Wauneta-Palisade


The Broncos had one game last week. Note, their other game they were supposed to play was against South Platte, but due to illness, the games were postponed. So Wauneta-Palisade played Dundy County Stratton and lost 57-17.


The Broncos are 1-5 and will play on January 2nd against Bertrand.
